KPMG's approach to diversity

KPMG's approach to diversity

Talented people come from all backgrounds and have a wide range of individual needs, perspectives and expectations. KPMG prides itself on its commitment to creating the kind of inclusive workplace that treats everyone with respect, and where people can be themselves and still achieve their potential regardless of their background.

Leading by example

This commitment runs right through the firm and is led from the very top. The strategy and approach are set by the UK Diversity Leadership Group, and we have a number of champions across all elements of diversity who progress this work. For example, Mike Blake, KPMG's Chief Finance Officer is our disability champion, and Ashley Steel, Global Chair, Transport and a UK Board Member, is one of the few openly gay women in the City – and featured in the Independent's 'PinkList 2009'.

We also have a dedicated Diversity Department which is employed specifically to work alongside managers to implement KPMG’s diversity policies. To help ensure an inclusive culture is truly embedded within our firm our Diversity Action Groups, which consists of members of our staff across all of KPMG’s functions, work alongside their usual jobs to champion diversity throughout every aspect of their departments' work.

Supporting our people

We’ve helped our people set up a variety of networks to champion diversity, challenge our own thinking and share good practice. These networks include:

• Faith based networks.
• Breathe – our Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual and Transgender network.
• Black Business Network.
• Disability network.

For KPMG, Diversity isn’t just a buzz word or something we have to consider. We work with all kinds of clients, and what matters to us is that our people are able to work with those clients, regardless of who they are.

We like to keep up to date with what’s going on in the outside world – that’s one of the ways we make sure diversity is ingrained into what we do. So we work with a number of different groups to gain their insight and independent advice.

We’ve also won a number of awards for our commitment to making KPMG an equal, diverse place to work. Click here to find out about some of the bodies we work with, and a few of the awards we have won.
