Management Consulting: Business Technology

Our clients grapple with some truly hot topics in their boardrooms – and our job within Business Technology Consulting is to help address them.

Delivering sustainable improvements to their technology, we help to dramatically enhance our clients’ performance. Some might even say that technology is the lifeblood of most organisations. Which is why our Business Technologists provide independent, jargon-free advice and technical expertise to help our clients realise the potential of their technology – and in turn, their business.

Our Business Technology programme is designed to offer the client exposure you need to secure a successful career. Developing core consulting and technology skills, commercial acumen and a flair for business, you’ll deliver real value to our clients.

Training and Development

Training will continue throughout your career at KPMG. But during your first couple of years, we focus on equipping you with technical and industry knowledge. The exact shape of your training will be influenced by the type of work you’re engaged in, but will involve learning market-leading technologies and industries, and formal training on a number of delivery and consulting approaches. We’ll also assign you to a project that puts your formal training to practical use.

Plus we offer on-the-job coaching, the chance to study for relevant industry qualifications and access to wide-ranging training that will help you to manage your time, influence stakeholders, manage finances and lead others.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to some of the questions you might have.

  • Will I work with other teams?

Absolutely. The programme is part of a much wider function within KPMG. Working with teams across KPMG to deliver truly bespoke solutions, you’ll gain a broader understanding of the role that our clients’ IT functions play within their business.

  • What types of clients might I work with?

Our clients tend to include organisations that are undergoing rapid growth, experiencing technology issues or using large, complex information systems. Sometimes they’ll be implementing emergent technologies, or may be looking to refresh their technology to better compete in a rapidly evolving marketplace.

  • How are projects organised?

We assemble teams with appropriate skills at bid stage or select them to meet specific client requirements for ongoing projects. The teams are led by an engagement manager and partner, who allocate work and the time spent.

  • What skills do I need to work in Management Consulting Business Technology?

As no two projects are the same, our world is exciting – and ideal for people who can adapt and grasp new technology concepts quickly. Strong analytical and problem solving skills, an interest in technology and business and a forward-thinking mindset will be key. And as each project may be with a different client, you’ll need to be a strong team player with the passion to deliver against tight deadlines.

  • Is there much travel involved in the role?

You should be prepared to travel. A large part of our work is done at our clients’ offices whether that’s down the road, across the country or in some cases, even overseas.

  • What is the start date for this programme?

Autumn 2013. However, for some teams we phase our entrances in monthly intakes, so there may be flexibility to accommodate any existing commitments. Once everyone has joined, our induction events will help you settle in and meet others from the wider graduate community.

  • What happens after I finish my graduate programme?

Given our amazing growth, you’ll be supported to progress a really varied career in Management Consulting Business Technology as you build specialist skills and broad consulting knowledge.
