KPMG Culture: Our People
In the UK alone, there are over 10,000 people at KPMG all bringing their unique types of smart together. We recognise the need to nurture these great individual talents and provide an environment where people can flourish personally and professionally. In fact, our future depends on it.
So whilst you’ll find that people share a common set of values across our business, each person brings their own set of experiences, skills and aspirations. To meet some of the people behind our success, have a look at the profiles below.

A couple of months ago I was also involved in a proposal which resulted in me pitching to a major client in Paris and prior to that I was developing a stress test for a client’s economic capital model. It’s fair to say that the work’s very varied!

From my own experience and speaking to my colleagues, I find that our clients have very high expectations of us and I do get given responsibility for important tasks.

To my surprise I found auditing interesting, varied and challenging – far removed from the usual stigma surrounding the profession! The job really is so much more than just the numbers.

The work I’m doing is different every day and I’m always learning something new. Also I work as part of a ‘national team’ which means I work on projects around the UK, so while Edinburgh is my ‘home office’ I also get the opportunity to spend time in Leeds and London for instance so I get the best of both worlds. The team I work in also makes my job really enjoyable.

Risk & Compliance is aiming to grow substantially over the next 3 years, which will no doubt present opportunities to work on interesting new clients.
-

When I first joined, from the start everyone was really friendly, welcoming and social. There is a good support network in place, with buddies, mentors and people management leaders that you can turn to for a quick question or a counselling session over a coffee.

One of the best aspects of working for KPMG is the fact that there are so many opportunities open to you, particularly in terms of training and learning.
-

The type of work the department does is quite varied, so there are plenty of opportunities to get involved with different types of work, both in and out of the office.
-
Felicity Walton
My job involves working with clients throughout the deal cycle, whether they are looking to acquire another company or they are being acquired. We help to assess potential transactions including the key risks and opportunities along with the drivers of growth.

Working in the tax department means that I attend the Tax Business School and that I have the opportunity to work towards two professional qualifications simultaneously, which I believe no other Big 4 was able to offer.
-
Craig Hicks
There are opportunities for me to develop a chosen specialist area through the availability of internal training and an encouragement to pursue the type of work and clients you want to get involved with.
-
Andrew Burgess
In my current role, as the key on-site contact for client management on a number of relatively small clients, I’m responsible for the overall preparation of the audit file.
-
Ben Iles
I’ve been with the firm now for nearly nine years, working six years in the Southampton office and then moving up to Cambridge in 2006. The move itself obviously involved a lot of work from various people and departments throughout the firm, for my carers and suchlike, and KPMG were very supportive of that.

Working in Forensic requires a very good eye for detail and analytical skills. It is important to be sceptical and question any information received.
