Lizzie Story - Leading with Heart, Growing with Purpose
View more people stories Explore Corporate Services opportunitiesWhen Lizzie joined KPMG, she was drawn to the firm’s focus on people. Following a long-standing career in early careers development, student recruitment, and well-being, she thrives on making a meaningful impact by supporting colleagues through career transitions, championing ethics, and volunteering to improve literacy for children in deprived communities. “I’ve always known that people development is where I’m happiest,” she says. “KPMG has given me space to do work that truly matters to me”.
In her current role as a Senior Manager, Lizzie helps colleagues navigate career transitions, supports teams through busy periods, and offers guidance when colleagues face difficult choices. One of her most meaningful moments came when she supported a young mother returning from maternity leave - helping her rebuild confidence and find a sustainable role she could thrive in. Elizabeth credits the culture around her for enabling this. “KPMG trusts you to lead with empathy,” she shares. “When people feel supported, they can grow in ways they never expected.”
Outside of her day work, Lizzie is committed to giving back. She volunteers weekly with Chapter One, reading with children in deprived communities to build literacy and confidence - something she describes as deeply grounding. She is active in several internal networks, from wellbeing groups to women’s initiatives, and even serves as an Ethics Champion, offering colleagues a safe space to talk through sensitive situations. “Helping people feel seen and supported is at the heart of everything I do,” she says. “KPMG has always encouraged me to bring that part of myself to work.”
For Lizzie, Making the Difference is about the quiet, everyday actions that shape someone’s experience - the conversations, the small reassurances, the moments of guidance that stay with people long after. “It’s amazing how one conversation can change someone’s direction,” she reflects. “If I can help someone feel more confident, more capable or more supported, then that’s making the difference - and that’s why I love what I do.”
