Leading with Values: Rachel’s Story of Growth at KPMG

When Rachel joined KPMG after a distinguished first career in the Royal Navy, she brought with her a deep well of leadership  experience, resilience and values‑driven purpose. Having served at sea, operated in complex environments across the world, and led diverse teams through challenging missions, she stepped into advisory work ready for a new chapter. “I’d loved my time in the Navy, but I knew I wanted more variety and the chance to apply my strengths differently,” she says. “KPMG felt like the right place to grow and contribute.” 

In her current role within Risk and Regulatory Advisory, Rachel focuses on helping financial services, organisations improve the way they govern and make decisions. She enjoys the variety of work and the collaborative spirit that consulting brings. “Every day is different, and that’s what motivates me,” she shares. “I get to work with great people, solve important problems and contribute to projects that really matter.” For Rachel, the combination of teamwork, challenges, and continuous learning is what makes her role so rewarding.  

Outside her day‑to‑day responsibilities, Rachel is deeply involved in shaping the culture of the firm. As Co‑Chair of the Forces in the Firm network, a menopause ambassador and a charity champion, she supports colleagues from all backgrounds and stages of their careers. “KPMG encourages me to bring my whole self to work,” she reflects. “Being able to stay connected to my roots, support veterans, and mentor our apprentices and graduates is something I genuinely value.” 

For Rachel, making the Difference is about showing up with purpose and helping others reach their potential. She believes the most meaningful impact comes from everyday acts of support, sharing guidance, creating space for others to grow and leading with kindness. “Making the difference isn’t always about big gestures,” she says. “It’s about being someone people can rely on.” She feels proud that her career at KPMG allows her to live these values while continuing to grow herself. “KPMG has backed me to shape a career that reflects what I care about - people, integrity and positive change,” she reflects.
