KPMG has one of the leading Indirect Tax & Customs practices in the UK.

We work as a national practice providing advice and support in all aspects of Indirect Tax (VAT, Customs Duty, Green taxes) to a broad range of business sectors including large multi-nationals, household name retailers and public sector organisations.
The Indirect Tax practice is a fast-growing and dynamic business, currently with 21 partners and approximately 200 professional staff in the UK.

The role in question is with the Trade & Customs team.

Trade & Customs

KPMG has a large team of Trade & Customs specialists located across the UK, working to support our national portfolio of clients with a variety of Trade & Customs issues. Within the team we have deep specialists in areas such as valuation, classification, origin and customs special procedures.  We work closely with our colleagues in Indirect Tax, other areas of Tax such as Transfer Pricing, and the wider Advisory business to deliver value to KPMG’s clients for whom we offer a wide range of services including customs advisory, compliance reviews and preparation of duty reclaims.

Roles and Responsibilities

You will be a key member of our team:

 

  • Providing high quality Customs & Trade advice on a broad range of issues to a wide range of clients.
  • Supporting senior members of the team in the delivery of client projects and business development initiatives
  • Day-to-day, direct contact with clients and developing long lasting, positive relationships.
  • Working with and developing Tax Assistants within the team.
  • Helping to identify opportunities to implement and develop technology solutions to deliver compliance and advisory projects.

What will you be doing?

 

  • Managing team activities to ensure compliance with KPMG risk management policies and procedures and manage engagement administration.
  • Supervising and coaching junior members of staff to help them realise their full potential
  • Final review of materials and communications for senior members of the practice for KPMG/client representation to immigration authorities and government officials
  • Monitor client service standards, swiftly addressing delivery failures (such as missed SLAs) and implement resolution plan to ensure these are prevented
  • Be responsible for effective management of engagement financials, cash collection and review of significant invoices

 

What will you need to do it?

 

  • Extensive demonstratable experience in Global Immigration
  • Thorough understanding of immigration concepts and issues and pro-actively research current immigration developments
  • Previous experience working at Manager level within Global Immigration
  • Experience of managing small teams, coaching and mentoring junior staff
  • Excellent level of attention to detail and accuracy and strong IT skills including very good MS Office (Word, Excel and Power Point
