Infrastructure Advisory Group (IAG), a part of KPMG Deal Advisory in the UK, consists of c. 400 professionals and is widely recognised as a leading independent business, financial and regulatory adviser in the infrastructure space. We provide in-depth advice on strategic, financial, regulatory and commercial issues driving investments in infrastructure across Transport, Power & Utilities, and Social Infrastructure in the UK and globally. We provide in-depth strategic and technical advice on strategy and business planning and analysis, corporate finance and corporate financial management, regulatory policy, cost assessment and benchmarking as well as in other areas to help our clients create value for both shareholders and customers. Our work combines elements of policy, finance, strategy and economics to assist our clients in structuring investments, securing financing, supporting regulatory regimes for the benefit of customers as well as maximising shareholder value. This area continues to grow and we are looking for a high quality candidate to support our Power & Utilities business with a particular focus on giving strategic advice on the energy transition to our clients in the energy and water sectors premised on net zero.

The Role

• You will have specific responsibilities for contributing towards the team’s energy networks business.
• Working closely with sector and subject matter experts you will have an in-depth understanding of Ofgem’s RIIO price controls and its wider regulatory framework.
• You will build relationships with key clients across the sector, as well as with other advisors.
• The projects that you will advise on will be high profile and varied and would be expected to include advising on regulatory strategy, all the core elements of regulated price controls, regulatory policy developments, including the evolving institutional arrangements within the sector and in support and provision of energy regulation expertise in terms of major transactions.
• There is no ‘typical project’. You will need to apply a structured strategic approach to problem solving, drawing on established economic principles, while having the capacity to think creatively.
• The work will include a combination of report drafting, economic (including quantitative) analysis, and engaging with clients. As a Manager you will be expected to manage projects from conception to completion.

Overview

This exciting role is within our South Region Corporate Tax Advisory & Compliance (CTAC) team, based in our Reading office. KPMG’s CTAC team has an immediate need for an Assistant Manager to support delivery of a range of engagements across corporate tax advisory, compliance and related work. The CTAC Reading team has a very strong market reputation working with leading Global clients on a range of tax services. There is a strong pipeline of project and advisory work. Our clients include UK headquartered businesses and large international groups across a range of sectors including TMT, healthcare amongst others. Our work in the tax advisory space includes supporting clients with business and fiscal change. This can include advising on new jurisdiction entry, the development of new business areas, business reorganisations, tax authority enquiries, pre/post transaction reorganisations, refinancing, cash repatriation, interest deductibility and the impact global fiscal change (e.g. BEPS Pillar 2). We work as a hybrid team where we get together in the office or at client sites at least twice a week to collaborate and learn together, with flexibility over how you spend the rest of your time.

The Role

• Being one of the main points of contact on a portfolio of clients on day-to-day tax matters and working with Partner/Director group, Senior Managers and Managers on our larger client accounts

KPMG has one of the leading Indirect Tax practices in the UK. We work as a national practice providing advice and support in all aspects of Indirect Tax (VAT, Customs Duty, Green taxes) to a broad range of business sectors including large multi-nationals, household name retailers, public sector organisations and Financial services (banking, insurance, asset finance, asset management and real estate clients)

The Indirect Tax practice is a fast-growing and dynamic business, currently with approximately 20 partners and 200 professional staff located across the UK.  We work to support our portfolio of clients with a variety of Indirect tax issues.  Within the various teams we have specialists in sectors such as Retail, Supply Chain, International Trade, alongside our Public Sector and Financial services specialisms.  We work closely with our colleagues in Trade & Customs, Corporate and Employment tax to deliver value to KPMG’s clients.  

The role in question is with the Financial Services (FS) Indirect tax team. The FS Indirect Tax practice currently services a broad range of clients, providing both VAT and Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) services. As VAT and IPT are real time, transactional taxes we work closely with our clients, building up a deep knowledge of their activities and how their businesses operate.

The team undertakes both compliance and advisory services. Over the last 12 months the team has been successful in winning a number of new, exciting projects.
