Do you enjoy tax technical research and solving complex technical queries? We are looking for a talented individual at Manager level, from either a corporate or mixed tax background, to be part of our national Central Technical Team. The ideal candidate will have very strong technical skills, drive and curiosity.

 

The Central Technical team works together with teams across the tax practice to collect, create, curate and communicate technical insight for the benefit of our teams and clients. This involves both carrying out original research and analysing knowledge submissions to produce and maintain technical resources to support our teams in delivering work to clients, assisting with complex technical queries, producing tax technical newsletters and monitoring important tax technical developments arising as a result of case law or the annual Budget and Finance Bill process, working closely with the separate Tax Policy team as required.

 

We are currently growing the team in order to increase our breadth of technical expertise within the central team, accelerate the expansion of our collection of detailed technical guidance, and ensure that our reference materials are current, maintained, and complement developments in technology including new AI tools.

Team members are based all over the UK so we are flexible on location and support hybrid and flexible working. While the role is not directly client-facing it is essential that the candidate has a keen appreciation of the issues facing clients.

What will you be doing?

  • Being one of the main points of contact on a portfolio of clients on day-to-day tax matters (both compliance and advisory) and working with Senior Managers and Managers on our larger client accounts
  • Undertaking tax advisory projects, including providing UK corporation tax advice based on experience, researching technical topics, working with other areas of UK tax and our overseas members firms to incorporate their input into our advice.
  • Ensuring our clients are kept up to date with emerging corporate and wider tax developments impacting their business.
  • The delivery of UK corporation tax compliance services
  • Supervising the work of junior members of staff and providing coaching to support their development.
  • Assisting our Managers and Senior Managers with client account management, including complying with appropriate quality and risk management procedures and financial management
  • Support the leadership with business development opportunities.

What will you need to do it? 

  • Qualified CTA or ACA / CA or equivalent
  • UK corporation tax experience

KPMG’s Fixed Asset Tax Services Team (capital allowances) is made up of tax advisers, accountants, chartered surveyors and ex-HMRC inspectors who deliver expert advice to a broad range of clients across almost every industry sector. We are seeking a Manager to join our London team, focusing primarily on the real estate, infrastructure, banking, and insurance sectors, who has a background in capital allowances, tax or accounting.


Role and Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will be:

  • A client-facing individual, responsible for building internal and external relationships in order to win projects and drive sales growth both independently and as part of the market team.
  • Working with and managing engagement teams both locally and nationally to prepare capital allowances claims, elections and allowances statements.
  • Actively involved in delivering and managing ad-hoc advisory work such as entitlement reviews, transaction input (such as tax due diligence, structuring and modelling) and significant one-off consultancy projects.

This programme is aimed  at students who come from a low socioeconomic background. By low socioeconomic background we mean:

  • Attended state school or college, and

  • Whilst at school you were eligible for free school meals (or you attended a school with ‘above regional average’ free school meals**), or
  • You were the first member of your immediate family to attend university. .

*Parental occupation socio-economic classification is a national standard and the Social Mobility Work’s toolkit (found here) provides details on the categorisations.

**Free School Meals are a statutory benefit available to school-aged children from families who receive other qualifying benefits and who have been through the relevant registration process. It does not include those who receive meals at school through other means e.g. boarding school.

This programme is open to students who are in their final year of university or have recently graduated. Whilst on the programme, you’ll have the opportunity to take an assessment, and if successful, you could secure a position on one of our autumn 2025 graduate programmes.
