Tax and Legal Technology Team

We are a team of 100+ technologists providing technology enablement services and solutions across the Tax and Legal business. This business has 4,000 tax & legal professionals covering multiple disciplines. We serve many thousands of clients and private individuals by providing a modern, market-leading suite of technology solutions that provide an efficient digital experience from routine to complex tax advice depending on client’s situation.

The team is made up of Product Owners, Business Analysts, multi-disciplinary Engineering teams (approximate 150 Software, QA and Cloud Operations engineers) and IT Service delivery professionals working on a large portfolio of systems used to improve productivity and solve key business problems across Tax & Legal. We also build cutting edge web portals for clients to interact with KPMG, maximising collaboration and ensuring seamless delivery of information to our clients.

The Role:

You will be working in a small team of Software Engineers and Quality Assurance Engineers across a variety of projects for both our clients and our internal professionals. You will be responsible both for the development and delivery of software solutions. Your team will work alongside a Product Owner who will help prioritise deliverables allowing you to focus on creating world-class solutions.

The role can be based anywhere in the UK, though preference will be given to candidates in Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester and London. We generally spend two days per week in the office. Remote or part-time workers are welcome to apply.

Whilst there is no expectation of existing knowledge of tax, we would expect you to develop a degree of domain knowledge over time.

What will you be doing?

•    Creating annual internal audit plans for clients
•    Providing internal audit services on both outsourced and co-sourced contractual basis
•    Managing and directly delivering individual and /or a programme of internal audit projects which includes planning, review, quality assurance and reporting
•    Risk management, governance and internal audit advisory services
•    Risk identification workshops and control reviews
•    Delivering control and risk training
•    Managing and reviewing internal control questionnaires
•    Compliance internal audits
•    Working with members of other KPMG advisory teams
•    Retaining management responsibility for a portfolio of clients, maintaining relationships with senior KPMG and client staff and is responsible for the financial performance and delivery of these accounts
•    Demonstrating a detailed understanding of how current and emerging legal, regulatory, governance, risk management, auditing, accounting and financial reporting standards affect their clients
•    Undertaking KPMG's internal risk management and client engagement management procedures including client acceptance, continuance and engagement procedures
•    Keeping up to date with all industry specific issues and circumstances which affect their clients
•    Developing audit strategies which address all audit, client service and project management issues, in accordance with the KPMG internal audit methodology
•    Recognising where specialists are required and involving other KPMG staff, managing their input to the client
•    Reviewing the audit evidence obtained ensuring it is sufficient in line with IIA Standards and KPMG methodology
•    Conducting meetings with clients to explain internal audit findings and drafting and reviewing reports
•    Reporting to Partners / Directors all salient points arising from assignments
•    Producing quarterly Audit Committee papers
•    Setting budgets for engagement and monitoring delivery against the budget
•    Ensuring work in progress is monitored and controlled with fees being raised promptly
•    Planning and allocating staff resources to fulfil business requirements
•    Setting objectives with the team, and providing support and feeding back on perf

KPMG has one of the leading Indirect Tax & Customs practices in the UK. We work as a national practice providing advice and support in all aspects of Indirect Tax (VAT, Customs Duty, Green taxes) to a broad range of business sectors including large multi-nationals, household name retailers and public sector organisations. The Indirect Tax practice is a fast-growing and dynamic business, currently with 13 partners and approximately 200 professional staff in the UK. The role in question is with the Trade & Customs team. Trade & Customs KPMG has a large team of Trade & Customs specialists located across the UK, working to support our national portfolio of clients with a variety of Trade & Customs issues. Within the team we have deep specialists in areas such as valuation, classification, origin and customs special procedures.  We work closely with our colleagues in Indirect Tax, other areas of Tax such as Transfer Pricing, and the wider Advisory business to deliver value to KPMG’s clients for whom we offer a wide range of services including customs advisory, compliance reviews and preparation of duty reclaims.
