Overview

This exciting role is within our London Corporate Tax Advisory & Compliance team, based in our Canary Wharf office. 

Our clients include UK headquartered businesses and inbound groups across a range of sectors. 

Our work in the tax advisory space includes supporting clients with business and fiscal change. This can include advising on new jurisdiction entry, the development of new business areas, business reorganisations, tax authority enquiries, pre/post transaction reorganisations, refinancing, cash repatriation, interest deductibility and the impact global fiscal change (e.g. BEPS Pillar 2).

We work as a hybrid team where we get together in the office or at client sites at least twice a week to collaborate and learn together, with flexibility over how you spend the rest of your time. 

The role

• Working closely with Partners, Directors and/or Senior Managers on complex projects to deliver technically excellent advice and service

• Managing UK and cross border teams on advisory projects, liaising with specialists, overseas member firms and external advisers, critically analysing and challenging their input to deliver successful projects and expertise to our clients
• Developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients
• Managing teams and coaching and developing junior members of staff both in respect of technical delivery and soft skills
• Managing our engagement quality and risk processes and client financials
• Being a role model for KPMG’s values

The person

• Qualified CTA or ACA / CA or equivalent

• UK corporation tax experience

Introduction 

The KPMG Alternatives team provides high-quality and impactful tax advisory and compliance services to the Alternative Investment Fund sector. This includes private equity, hedge funds, credit funds and real estate funds.

Due to our ongoing growth, we have a number of job openings for exceptional candidates. This posting would be well suited to a driven and motivated candidate with experience in Alternative Investment Funds sector, or someone with a keen interest in developing this as a specialism. We would also like to hear from candidates who have experience of working in a tax team within an Alternative Investment fund.

Key responsibilities
As a Manager, your responsibilities will include:

• Managing the delivery of tax advice on a wide range of UK and international tax matters relevant to Alternative Investment funds, including UK corporation tax and partnership tax matters. This will include reviewing work prepared by team members and undertaking detailed technical research of legislation, case law and HMRC manuals.
• Owning the corporation tax and partnership tax process from end-to-end, including reviewing drafts that have been prepared by team members.
• Managing, coaching and supporting other members of the team, on both technical and people matters.
• Running client meetings and calls.
• Interacting with HMRC, including by telephone and letter.
• Maintain a portfolio of clients with whom you will build long-term trusted client relationships. Take responsibility for ensuring that their tax advisory and tax compliance needs are met, including pro-actively bringing relevant tax developments to their attention.
• Working collaboratively with other members of the Alternatives team in the UK, as well as with other KPMG offices globally. Adapting your style and approach when needed in order to achieve the best possible outcome.
• Driving business development initiatives for the team.

Relevant skills and experience for this role

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate all of the following attributes:

• Qualified as a Chartered Accountant (CA or ACA), Chartered Tax Advisor or solicitor (or international equivalent).
• Career drive to develop a specialism in Alternative Investment Fund taxation and to be part of a fast-growing, high-performing Alternatives tax team. Positive approach to personal development and motivation for progression to Senior Manager grade and beyond, as your experience and knowledge develops.
• Track record of managing the delivery of high-quality tax advisory and compliance services to clients. Experience in the Alternative Investment Funds sector is preferred, but this is not essential.
• Ability to take day to day leadership of delivery team, including supporting them with managing competing deadlines and communicating effectively with colleagues and clients, including when under pressure.
• Strong level of UK corporation tax knowledge and the ability to communicate complex rules and ideas in a simple way, both verbally and in writing.
• Delivers written work to a consistently high standard, with a strong attention to detail.
