KPMG’s Debt Advisory practice has a c.25 year history advising public and private clients on developing and executing debt financing strategies. The team’s typical clients include listed companies, medium to large privately owned businesses and private equity / sponsor-backed entities. Its experience spans the spectrum of debt markets, financing instruments, asset classes, sectors and situations (including M&A, investment, new debt issues, refinancing and restructuring / amendments to debt facilities). The Sentinel team are part of the Risk Operations Group (ROG) which is responsible for monitoring the firm’s and its individuals’ compliance with the firm’s professional risk management and quality control policies, procedures and guidance. Furthermore, the team work with the wider Quality and Risk Management community and across the KPMG network to exchange knowledge, develop and improve processes and procedures in response to emerging regulatory, business and other requirements.

The Sentinel team are responsible for the processes relating to the firm’s global Sentinel application, a KPMG secure online application developed to assist KPMG member firms in complying with legal and regulatory independence requirements related to the provision of services and in identifying potential conflicts of interest with proposed engagements. In particular, the team review and propose mitigations for identified conflicts of interests, help engagement teams with correctly on-boarding new clients onto the application, maintain a list of firm’s restricted clients for personal independence purposes

KPMG undertakes client risk assessments (CRA), including Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Know Your Client (KYC) as part its process for accepting clients.  

The Client Assessment Team forms a key part of this process and sits within Q&RM (part of KBS), which is led by the Chief Risk Officer.  This team will also have a reporting line into the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO).  KPMG’s Q&RM function is responsible for monitoring the firm’s and its individuals’ compliance with the firm’s professional risk management and quality control policies, procedures and guidance.  
The Client Assessment Team has both onshore and offshore delivery components and undertakes thorough client risk assessments (CRA) to help KPMG to appropriately identify, document and assess financial, reputational, money laundering and regulatory risks associated with its clients.  The CRA will include completion of AML KYC in line with the Money Laundering (Transfer of the Payer) Regulations 2017 and associated industry guidance.
