The Infrastructure Advisory Group (IAG) at KPMG UK (ca. 400 FTEs) provide in-depth advice on strategic, financial, regulatory and commercial issues driving investments in infrastructure across Power & Utilities, Transport, Social Infrastructure, Government, Major Projects, in the UK and Europe. Our work includes market and policy design, economic and regulatory analysis, deal structuring and execution, as well as strategic and transaction advice to enable private and public capital to fund infrastructure. We work closely with other functions within KPMG to advise clients on due diligence, transactions and valuations.

 

Power & Utilities (P&U), led by Dr Matt Firla-Cuchra, counts c85 FTEs is the largest business area of IAG and encompasses work for major clients in the sector, including all UK utilities as well as some of the largest energy and water companies in Europe and beyond. We are now looking for talented and experienced Assistant Manager to join our Defined Contribution pensions team. You will be responsible for delivering high quality pensions advice in relation to DC pension schemes with a focus on the private sector but also schemes in the public sector.

The Responsibilities:
The role involves a mixture of both compliance and advisory responsibilities, with specific duties including:

  • Developing and maintaining a high level of technical knowledge across real estate taxes and related areas including REITs.
  • Supporting the management of client relationships and projects and becoming a focal point of contact for clients within real estate taxes.
  • Understanding our client's business and working with teams across KPMG to identify areas for the provision of real estate tax and other services.
  • Developing and advising on cutting edge client propositions.
  • Being involved in business development and proposal activity.
  • Collaborating with KPMG teams across the UK and globally to provide the highest quality real estate tax support to our clients.
  • Participating in the development of new client propositions, which will include working with technology teams to develop new solutions, taking these to market and building the delivery model to ensure the highest quality services are provided.

The Person:  

The successful candidates are likely to have some or all of the following skills:

 

  • Evidence of deep technical ability relating to tax or financial services – e.g., this might be a qualification in tax, audit, finance, law, regulation, or significant practical experience gained in an industry role.
  • Practical experience of dealing with real estate taxes within a Financial Services context – candidates with industry or professional services experience.
  • An understanding of financial markets, participants, investors (e.g., property rental businesses, hotels, institutional, investors, custodians, asset managers, private equity etc) and products.
  • Good knowledge of Corporation Tax compliance, CIR, Anti-hybrids, REITs., QIPS.
  • Excellent project management, delegation/coaching and client facing delivery skills.

KPMG’s specialist Transfer Pricing Audit team sits within the firm’s national transfer pricing team and audits the transfer pricing arrangements of a range of businesses to identify transfer pricing risks.

Our team works on a broad range of audits from FTSE100 Group reporting engagements to UK statutory audits.

The KPMG specialist audit team have high levels of technical expertise and team members below partner and director work closely with the partners and directors in the team. There is extensive on the job coaching as well as more regular technical training sessions. The Responsibilities/Job Description

This role involves working on a range of audits to test whether the tax on the transfer pricing arrangements materially complies with the arm’s length principle as set out in the UK Transfer Pricing legislation.

Day to day, the work involves:

  • Managing various transfer pricing audits and leading the day-to-day transfer pricing audit processes
  • Coordinating with KPMG's Audit and Tax Audit teams on a range of audits
  • Acting as the main point of contact for audit entity management teams
  • Speaking to Audit Entities to obtain the facts
  • Coaching and developing junior team members which will also include delivering training sessions and providing on-the-job coaching on a regular basis
  • Ensuring timely reporting to senior management
  • Actively contributing to sharing transfer pricing audit knowledge to the transfer pricing advisory team

The Person

We are looking for candidates with the following skills/experience:

  • Either a CTA, CA, ACA, ACCA or attained a Bachelors or Masters degree in economics, finance, law, accounting or equivalent qualification
  • Transfer pricing experience: preferably including experience of transfer pricing audits, policy setting, tax authority enquiries/Advance Pricing Agreements, operational transfer pricing, financing transfer pricing, project management and managing junior team members; or significant audit experience  
  • Sound judgement and an enquiring mind, including the ability to objectively assess and challenge management’s assumptions and exercise professional scepticism
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • High level of drive and enthusiasm with a positive attitude
  • Keen ability and willingness to keep up to date technically and develop the technical ability of the team below you
  • Ability to work autonomously and to take initiative as appropriate
  • Highly organised with excellent communication and project management skills
