The Responsibilities/Job Description  

This role involves working on a range of projects.

The work involves:

  • Providing technical transfer pricing advice to our National Markets clients on a broad range of topics
  • Developing and maintaining client relationships including acting as the main point of contact for clients and relevant stakeholders
  • Managing various projects across multiple jurisdictions and leading the day-to-day delivery processes
  • Coordinating with KPMG's transfer pricing, international tax, indirect tax and advisory teams on a range of topics
  • Financial management, including developing and managing project budgets and billing to ensure profitable delivery of client engagements
  • Coaching and developing junior team members which will also include delivering training sessions and providing on-the-job coaching on a regular basis
  • Ensuring timely reporting to senior management
  • Actively contributing to identifying new opportunities and managing business development and marketing initiatives along with proposition and market leads

The Person

We are looking for candidates with the following skills/experience:

  • Either a CTA, CA, ACA, ACCA or attained a Bachelors or Masters degree in economics, finance, law, accounting or equivalent qualification.
  • Extensive transfer pricing experience, preferably including experience of preparing transfer pricing documentation, tax value chain analyses, benchmarking, supporting with tax authority enquiries/Advance Pricing Agreements, project management and managing junior team members
  • Sound judgement, including the ability to identify and evaluate risk issues and know when to involve others.
  • Strong analytical skills and a commercial approach to resolving issues and providing advice
  • High level of drive and enthusiasm with a positive attitude
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Keen ability and willingness to keep up to date technically and develop the technical ability of the team below you.
  • Ability to work autonomously and to take initiative as appropriate
  • An appreciation of and/or understanding of ethical/risk issues within a client service environment
  • Very strong people skills for engaging with our clients and team members
  • Highly organised with excellent communication and project management skills

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our market-leading regulatory finance team as an Associate Director with a focus on competition economics. We are looking for an ambitious individual who would be excited to take a lead role in building our economics practice.

Our economics team is part of our well-established utilities regulatory consulting practice, so you will benefit from working closely with other professionals who frequently support us on our cases, including regulatory finance experts and econometricians. The projects you will advise on will be high profile and varied. In recent years we have advised on subsidy control, CMA re-determinations, risk analysis, major transactions and much more.

Responsibilities:

  • Play a pivotal role in running projects and maintaining client relationships with minimal supervision from Directors and Partners.
  • Ensure that client work is delivered to the highest standards in both content and form, managing client interactions, tracking budgets, and complying with the company’s risk processes.
  • Lead project teams of 2-12 people, fostering a collaborative spirit and culture of respect. Maintain a positive attitude when the team is under pressure, supporting other team members.
  • Play a key role in our sales efforts, building and maintaining effective relationships with key clients across the sector, as well as with other advisors. Identify and act on new opportunities with both new and existing clients.

The Role
 

  • You would be joining the leading provider of strategic economic consultancy services in the water sector.
  • While you will have specific responsibilities for contributing towards the team’s water business, there will also be opportunities to work in other sectors, primarily energy networks.
  • Working closely with sector and subject matter experts you will develop to become the ‘go to’ person for water sector economic advice. This will involve developing an in-depth understanding of Ofwat’s regulatory framework.
  • You will build relationships with key clients across the sector, as well as with other advisors (e.g., legal and engineering. The projects that you will advise on will be high profile and caried. For example, in recent years we have advised on the regulatory framework for the Thames Tideway Tunnel, every aspect of water companies' business plans, bulk supply trading negotiations, Competition and Markets Authority re-determinations, major transactions, organisational transformations, and much more. If there is a large strategic project taking place in the sector, the chances are we will be advising on it. 
  • There is no ‘typical project’. You will need to apply a structured strategic approach to problem solving, drawing on established economic principles, while having the capacity to think creatively.  
  • The work will include a combination of report drafting, economic analysis, and engaging with clients. 
  • You will need to be comfortable managing, coaching, and mentoring junior staff across a number of projects. 
  • You will contribute towards building the team, identifying opportunities in the market, and providing thought leadership.
