The role

An exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our Scotland Corporate Tax Advisory & Compliance team as a Manager, based in our Edinburgh, Glasgow or Aberdeen office.  Our client base and the services we provide are varied, so you've got a great opportunity to help shape how you spend your time.  Key aspects of the role will involve:

• Being responsible for delivery of the corporation tax compliance work on a portfolio of clients and working with Senior Managers, Directors and Partners on our larger client accounts
• Being involved in tax advisory projects including advice closely linked to the compliance work such as on controlled foreign companies and the corporate interest restriction, as well as assisting on ad hoc advisory projects
• Being responsible for the delivery of tax accounting work and working with Senior Managers and Directors on tax reporting work
• Ensuring our clients are kept up to date with emerging corporate and wider tax developments impacting their business
• Supervising the work of junior members of staff and providing coaching to support their development
• Being responsible for and reporting to Directors and Partners on client account management, including complying with appropriate quality and risk management procedures and financial management
• Support the leadership with business development opportunities

The role would involve a mixture of tax compliance, reporting and advisory work and there would be flexibility around the weighting of time to these different components of the role based on your experience and areas of interest.

The person

• Qualified CTA or ACA / CA or equivalent

• UK corporation tax experience

The Team

We are looking for passionate individuals to join our Asset Management Advisory (AMA) team, part of the KPMG Infrastructure Advisory Group (IAG). Our team advises infrastructure owners in both the public and private sector, including government with their most complex challenges. IAG is widely recognised as one of the world’s leading independent financial and business advisers in infrastructure consisting of over 380 professionals.

Our team leads exciting projects across both public and private sectors principally focused on major capital and infrastructure portfolios in Transport, Energy, Water, Defence, Oil and Gas and Health. This is a fast-growing area offering many opportunities building upon a global capability in Asset Management where we provide:

• Asset Strategy and Transformation, including operating model design and transformation of asset management functions.
• Asset Health and Performance including investment planning, efficiency improvements in capital and operating expenditure, as well as asset resilience, asset data, investment business cases and benchmarking.
• Digital asset management including asset performance and financial modelling and smart technology.
• Investor assurance of asset performance and transaction due diligence support.

KPMG's Governance, Risk and Compliance Services (GRCS) practice within Infrastructure, Government and Healthcare (IGH) is an area of the firm with tremendous growth potential as proven by recent significant wins. It provides services relating to internal audit, internal control, corporate governance, risk management and related assurance projects to our clients based in the public sector. Our services deliver added value to clients through the use of modern control assessment, risk management and internal audit techniques focusing on strategic, management and operational issues as well as financial management and reporting controls. We also work closely with other advisory teams including our colleagues in Technology Risk and Cyber Risk to ensure our clients receive the best possible advice and assurance. You’ll form part of a 20-strong team based out of the Manchester office, principally servicing our client base in the North whilst also being involved with work with our wider national team.

The Role 
As an Assistant Manager in GRCS there will be opportunities to work on a variety of engagements for our clients covering the spectrum of services that we provide including:  

• Assurance mapping
• Creating annual audit plans for clients
• Providing internal audit services on both outsourced and co-sourced contractual basis
• Managing and directly delivering a programme of internal audit projects which includes planning, review, quality assurance and reporting
• Working with a client’s in-house internal audit function for co-source engagements to supply specialist or additional resource needed
• Process improvement projects
• Risk management, governance and internal audit advisory services
• Risk identification workshops and control reviews
• Delivering control and risk training
• Managing and reviewing internal control questionnaires
• Corporate governance reviews
• Contract compliance audits
• Assessing effectiveness of internal audit functions, audit committees and boards
• Working with members of other KPMG advisory teams

Responsibilities 

• Assisting with the management of a North of England and UK-wide portfolio of clients, maintaining relationships with senior KPMG and client staff and being responsible for the financial performance and delivery of these accounts
• Demonstrating a detailed understanding of how current and emerging legal, regulatory, governance, risk management, auditing, accounting and financial reporting standards affect their clients
• Understanding and assisting managers to undertake KPMG's internal risk management and client engagement management procedures including client acceptance, continuance and engagement procedures
• Keeping up to date with all industry specific issues and circumstances which affect your clients
• Developing internal audit strategies which address all internal audit, client service and project management issues, in accordance with the KPMG internal audit methodology
• Delivering against those audit strategies
• Recognising where specialists are required and involving other KPMG staff, managing their input to the client
• Reviewing the audit evidence obtained ensuring it is sufficient in line with International Internal Audit (IIA) and PSIAS (Public Sector Internal Audit) Standards and KPMG methodology
• Conducting meetings with clients to explain audit findings and drafting and reviewing reports
• Reporting to managers/senior managers and partners/directors all salient points arising from assignments
• Assisting with the  production of quarterly Audit Committee papers
• Assisting with the setting of budgets for engagements and monitoring delivery against the budget
