The role


An exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join our Scotland Corporate Tax Advisory & Compliance team as a Manager, based in our Edinburgh, Glasgow or Aberdeen office.  Our client base and the services we provide are varied, so you've got a great opportunity to help shape how you spend your time.  Key aspects of the role will involve:

 

  • Being responsible for delivery of the corporation tax compliance work on a portfolio of clients and working with Senior Managers, Directors and Partners on our larger client accounts
  • Being involved in tax advisory projects including advice closely linked to the compliance work such as on controlled foreign companies and the corporate interest restriction, as well as assisting on ad hoc advisory projects
  • Being responsible for the delivery of tax accounting work and working with Senior Managers and Directors on tax reporting work
  • Ensuring our clients are kept up to date with emerging corporate and wider tax developments impacting their business
  • Supervising the work of junior members of staff and providing coaching to support their development
  • Being responsible for and reporting to Directors and Partners on client account management, including complying with appropriate quality and risk management procedures and financial management

The role would involve a mixture of tax compliance, reporting and advisory work and there would be flexibility around the weighting of time to these different components of the role based on your experience and areas of interest.

Overview

 

This exciting role is within our South Region Corporate Tax Advisory & Compliance team, based in our South Central Or South West offices. 

 

Our clients include UK headquartered businesses and inbound groups across a range of sectors. 

 

Our work in the tax advisory space includes supporting clients with business and fiscal change. This can include advising on new jurisdiction entry, the development of new business areas, business reorganisations, tax authority enquiries, pre/post transaction reorganisations, refinancing, cash repatriation, interest deductibility and the impact global fiscal change (e.g. BEPS Pillar 2).

 

We work as a hybrid team where we get together in the office or at client sites at least twice a week to collaborate and learn together, with flexibility over how you spend the rest of your time. 

 

The Role

 

  • Being one of the main points of contact on a portfolio of clients on day-to-day tax matters and working with Senior Managers and Managers on our larger client accounts
  • Supporting on tax advisory projects by providing UK corporation tax input based on experience and researching topics and by working with other areas of tax and our overseas members firms to incorporate their input into our advice.

Our Risk and Regulatory practice provides advisory services to assist leading organisations in the Wealth and Asset Management (“WAM”) sector. KPMG has a proven track record of helping clients in this area, and we have significant growth plans in this sector given the opportunities arising from a substantive regulatory agenda, an evolving and increasingly complex risk management environment, and a need to transform risk and compliance capability.

 

The Risk and Regulatory team possess a variety of core assurance and advisory skills and have considerable industry knowledge and specialist expertise of the UK and EU regulatory environment.

The Role – Manager

Responsibilities: 

Advising clients on key areas of risk and regulatory compliance within the WAM sector and the challenges that changing regulation has on their business models. This role has a specific focus on front office controls and trading oversight. This will include supporting clients on the following areas:

  • Front Office governance arrangements, control environments and corporate culture around dealing, investment management processes and related regulatory compliance in this area
  • The development of Target Operating Models for risk and control functions cross the 3 Lines of Defence.
  • Reviewing, developing, and implementing risk monitoring capability aligned to the investment teams and dealing desks .
  • Conflicts of interest management across the front office including the use of related technology in this area. Developing best practice control and oversight around COBS compliance
  • The review and development of market surveillance programmes including market abuse frameworks and related technology in this area
  • Supporting regulatory change and implementation programmes with a specific focus on the front office, investment solutions and dealing.
  • Pre/Post regulatory implementation health checks.
  • Delivering client engagements, working in both small sized teams and larger, multi-disciplinary teams.  This would include the whole engagement lifecycle:  Planning to completion and reporting directly to the engagement Director and Partner.
  • Delivering Section 166 reviews and reporting to the FCA as part of a wider team.
  • Providing advice regarding regulatory requirements affecting the WAM sector.
  • Delivering high quality written outputs for client consumption.

 

The candidate will also be expected to:

 

  • Keep up to date with industry specific issues and circumstances which affect WAM regulation
  • Prepare presentations and lead internal training

Qualifications and Skills:

 

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Professional qualification preferred (e.g. CFA, FRM, PRM), with strong knowledge of regulatory rules and guidance but crucially practical application within the WAM industry.

The role involves working on a range of Transfer Pricing Compliance Projects

  

The work involves:

  • Lead global transfer pricing compliance projects where we prepare transfer pricing local files, master files and TP returns for clients across multiple jurisdictions.  This role involves leading on a range of compliance projects across a varied client base in both size of business and industry.
  • Developing and maintaining client relationships for global transfer pricing compliance projects
  • Project management in relation to the provision of our transfer pricing compliance services including liaising with our global KPMG network of member firms
  • Leading the day-to-day delivery processes and manage the project to ensure the local file deadlines are met and correct submissions are made
  • Performing/attending functional interviews with clients to understand activities and value drivers for our clients’ businesses to prepare transfer pricing analyses
  • Determining key industry features across varied industries that influence the pricing of transactions and preparing transfer pricing analyses
  • Review benchmarking analyses across industries and transaction types (TNMM and CUP)
  • Reviewing and documenting transfer pricing policies
  • Understand and implement KPMG’s transfer pricing technology for preparation of local files
  • Review transfer pricing local files using KPMG’s transfer pricing technology
  • Supporting clients with tax authority enquiries

Role summary

This role, which is focused on the product and innovation aspects of Intellectual Property (IP), Technology and Data, is a part of the International Office of the General Counsel (IOGC).  It focuses on providing legal advice and support from IOGC on the development, protection, enforcement, acquisition and licensing of technology, software and data, particularly risks, protections and opportunities related to the patent aspects of KPMG’s IP, technology and data strategy.

Although this role is primarily focused on product and innovation, this role may also involve providing support to other IOGC lawyers on strategic initiatives and commercial technology transactions, particularly where the licensed technology is protected by patents, is not patent protected but is in a highly patented field, and/or leverages artificial intelligence and blockchain.

The person in this role will execute their responsibilities under the overall supervision of, and working collaboratively with, the most senior patent lawyer with respect to IP, Technology and Data and other senior lawyers focused on IP and technology law. This role requires a person to provide meaningful value-add to business and technology development teams by supporting product and innovation that contributes to over $17 billion in annual revenue, helping to analyse KPMGI’s intellectual property (IP) and technology assets, and advising on patent protection and IP enforcement, all while supporting IOGC’s senior leadership team in managing, mitigating and preventing legal and reputational risk.
