In the summer of 2020, we opened the UK’s first Ignition Centre, transforming the way we work with our clients and each other by combining specialist ways of working with dynamic, collaborative physical, virtual and hybrid environments.  Ignition not only helps us to deliver what clients need today, it also brings our digital expertise and content to life in new ways and enables us to develop solutions which prepare clients for a changing future.

Based on our success in London, we have expanded the UK Ignition footprint with our second Ignition centre, located in Manchester.  This role can be based in either centre, but will work across both. 

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our market-leading regulatory finance team as an Associate Director with a focus on competition economics. We are looking for an ambitious individual who would be excited to take a lead role in building our economics practice.

Our economics team is part of our well-established utilities regulatory consulting practice, so you will benefit from working closely with other professionals who frequently support us on our cases, including regulatory finance experts and econometricians. The projects you will advise on will be high profile and varied. In recent years we have advised on subsidy control, CMA re-determinations, risk analysis, major transactions and much more.

Responsibilities:

• Play a pivotal role in running projects and maintaining client relationships with minimal supervision from Directors and Partners.
• Ensure that client work is delivered to the highest standards in both content and form, managing client interactions, tracking budgets, and complying with the company’s risk processes.
• Lead project teams of 2-12 people, fostering a collaborative spirit and culture of respect. Maintain a positive attitude when the team is under pressure, supporting other team members.
• Play a key role in our sales efforts, building and maintaining effective relationships with key clients across the sector, as well as with other advisors. Identify and act on new opportunities with both new and existing clients.
• Be involved in the wider management and development of the P&U Regulatory Finance team, including contributions to recruitment, performance appraisal, mentoring and thought leadership.

The utilities sector is the largest business area for the Infrastructure Group and encompasses work for large clients in the sector, including all of the leading UK energy and water companies as well as some of the largest utilities in Europe and beyond. We provide in-depth strategic and technical advice on corporate finance and corporate financial management, regulatory finance, regulatory policy, business and financial planning, cost assessment and benchmarking as well as other drivers affecting value. Our work combines elements of policy, finance, strategy and economics to assist our clients in structuring investments, securing financing, supporting regulatory regimes and maximising shareholder value. We are widely recognised by many industry stakeholders as market leaders influencing the future of the utilities sector.

Our business is continuously expanding and we are looking for high quality candidates to support our Power & Utilities business with a particular focus on cost assessment, modelling and benchmarking as well as financial analysis. This is to support the development of new service lines, building on the work already undertaken in the Group.

The Global Decarbonization Hub Assistant Manager will directly support our Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) as they drive KPMG’s Climate Change, Decarbonisation and Nature (CDN) propositions, supporting our Member Firms (MFs) to sell and deliver CDN services to their most important clients. The Assistant Manager will focus particularly on Decarbonisation and Transition Plans, assisting GDH SMEs as they support MFs with proposals through to bid stage and delivery, helping MFs to succeed in their pitches for our largest and most important opportunities globally. The Assistant Manager will also support the GDH's SMEs to globalise KPMG’s offerings across the Decarbonisation agenda, collaborating with our global network and building KPMG’s reputation as a CDN services leader.
