The Team 

We are a team of 300+ technologists providing technology enablement services across the Tax and Legal practice.  

The team is made up of Product Owners, Business Analysts, Multi-disciplinary Engineering teams and IT Service delivery professionals working on a large portfolio of systems used to improve productivity and solve key business problems.   

We also build cutting edge solutions enabling clients to interact with KPMG, maximising collaboration and ensuring seamless delivery of services.  

The Role

The Lead Data engineer will primarily work with product owners, solution architects, engineering teams and BI developers to implement and drive forward our Data & AI goals within Tax & legal.  

This is an opportunity to work as a "hands on" data engineer, engaging with a variety of stakeholders in engineering teams and the business to deliver business critical solutions.  You will collaborate with Enterprise Data Architects and Data engineers’ firm wide to align to best practice and the firms Data management policies.  

The role can be based anywhere in the UK, though preference will be given to candidates in Glasgow and London. Regular travel to Glasgow or London will be required once travel conditions permit this. Remote or part-time

Overview

This exciting role is within our Corporate Tax Team based in the South region, with a choice of base office in either Bristol or Cardiff. You’ll join a high performing team advising on a broad range of clients from privately owned businesses to some of the region’s largest and most complex organisations.

We are looking for a talented individual at Assistant Manager level to support our continued rapid growth. The successful candidate will thrive in a dynamic and challenging working environment, supported by a strong and ambitious leadership team.

You will work with a diverse portfolio of clients across UK listed, PE backed, inbound and family owned groups, and take on a variety of projects, including tax structuring, international expansion, operating model redesign, tax compliance and tax accounting.

The role will suit an Assistant Manager wanting to drive their tax career.

Role and Responsibilities: 

Working as a key member of the team to provide corporate tax advice to a broad range of clients helping them to achieve their commercial objectives. 

• Supporting the successful delivery of technically excellent advice including: tax structuring, compliance, governance, refinancing, legal structure optimisation, pre/post transaction reorganisations, tax authority enquiries and providing technical support to the wider corporate tax team.
• Liaising with specialists in other departments and overseas offices to oversee their input into tax advisory projects.
• Coaching and developing more junior members of the team.
• Developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients and understanding of their business in order to create opportunities to help with the provision of tax and other services
• Supporting the preparation of proposals for new work, including preparing tender documents and presenting at client pitches
• Supporting Directors and Partners in business development activities
• Being a role model for KPMG’s values

Qualifications, Experience and Skills: 

• ACA, CA, CTA, ACCA or equivalent qualified with strong corporate tax and accounting knowledge 
• Ability to develop, coach and mentor staff, as well as manage stakeholders
• Strong interpersonal skills are required in addition to strong oral and written communication skills
• Well-developed analytical skills and a commercial approach to resolving issues and providing advice
• Pro-active in identifying and progressing business opportunities for the long-term benefit of both KPMG and the client

We are looking for a skilled and proactive Data Engineer with strong expertise in the Microsoft Azure data ecosystem, including Microsoft Fabric, Synapse Analytics, and Delta Lake. This role requires hands-on experience in building and optimising data pipelines and notebooks, transforming large datasets, and enabling data-driven decision-making across the organisation.

The successful candidate will play a key role in designing and implementing scalable data solutions, collaborating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and helping shape our modern data architecture.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines and notebooks using Synapse Analytics and Microsoft Fabric.
• Build and optimise complex data transformation and ingestion logic to support enterprise-level reporting and analytics.
• Leverage Delta Lake architecture to support both batch and streaming data processes.
• Develop high-quality, reusable code in Python and PySpark, following best practices and ensuring maintainability.
• Create insightful, interactive reports and dashboards using Power BI.
• Use Git and Azure DevOps (ADO) for version control and deployment workflows.
• Continuously improve the performance, reliability, and scalability of data systems.
• Advocate for best practices in data governance, data quality, and documentation.
