The Role

Responsibilities

  • We require the individual to manage technical client projects and support internal product development around risk and regulatory issues for our banking clients.
  • Support the development of risk and regulatory topics including wholesale conduct risk, prudential risk, market risk and/or financial and non-financial regulatory reporting.
  • Advise clients on the benefits and impact of regulations, current industry practices and advancements.
  • Keep abreast of all latest trends and any new regulations, leveraging off international SME support where applicable.
  • The individual will be required to apply their skills to a broad range of Banking Risk-related issues supporting both regional and national propositions.

The Person

Desirable Qualifications, Skills, Experience & Knowledge

  • Good understanding of banks and/or trading businesses
  • Strong understanding of financial products
  • Strong understanding of financial services firms' businesses, structures, governance frameworks, risk management and process and control arrangements, in the Banking and/or Investment Management sectors
  • Strong familiarity with role of key bank functions including Front office, Market Risk, Product control, Treasury and Compliance
  • Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills and ability to develop and maintain strong internal and external networks
  • Experience of regulation impacting banking clients and knowledge of new regulatory developments impacting them
  • A practical understanding of the ‘three lines of defence’ model

  • Excellent oral / written communication, planning, project management, networking and influencing skills.

The Role

We are looking for a Manager to support the fast growing Power & Utilities Projects team covering water and energy infrastructure including new nuclear generation, onshore and offshore networks, interconnectors, and other major assets.

The Projects business is focussed on designing new markets and advising on in-house and competitive delivery models for major infrastructure projects and programmes.  We advise companies, developers, bidders and regulators on all aspects of delivering major infrastructure assets and competitive procurements. Some of the projects we have advised on include Hinkley Point C, potential investor in Sizewell C, Thames Tideway Tunnel, Hydrogen Transport Business Model, multiple Direct Procurement for Customers (DPC) projects, OFTOs, Special Infrastructure Projects Regime (SIPR), Cap and Floor Interconnectors, Competitively Appointed Transmission Owners (CATOs) and new nuclear projects (NNPs). This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an Honour/Post Graduate degree in Information Technology discipline that either has industry experience or a working knowledge of the R&D tax legislation, and its application to information technology activities. 

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Working with project teams to develop the technical approach and deliver R&D tax relief claims for submission to HMRC. This will include taking some responsibility and accountability with respect of managing the delivery of the claims.
  • Lead/Co-lead meetings with the senior IT technical and financial client stakeholders; and provide expert advice in relation to innovation advisory services (R&D, Patent Box, Grant Applications).
  • Write accurate and substantive technical project reports to support R&D tax claims for our clients R&D projects. This will include reviewing technical reports written by junior colleagues.
  • Prepare (and/or manage the process for preparing) both the technical and financial elements of our client deliverables. This will include reports documenting the work being undertaken by our clients within technically complex IT projects for submission to HMRC/ Funding Organisations; and working with KPMG tax/costing colleagues and client staff to ensure correct quantification of R&D/PB claims.
  •  Assist in managing client projects across both tax and technical work streams; and manage conflicting resourcing requirements between projects.
  •  Assist in leading projects; and solving problems by advising our clients in the application of complex legislation to real life situations.Assist in liaising with HMRC specialists to facilitate the agreement of R&D claims.
  • Help to establish and maintain strong client relationships with both existing and new clients.
  • Look to build an internal network within the wider tax practice of the firm.
