Our People: Jayvin
Why did you choose KPMG?
“I was looking for an apprenticeship scheme as I knew I wanted to start working right after school as well as gain a professional qualification. I did a lot of research into what was available and KPMG had the most comprehensive offering. I was also drawn to the focus on training and development, the range of clients and the breadth and depth of experience the Business Support Academy offers.”
What qualifications are you working towards and what support are you getting?
“The programme is a thirteen-month programme where you gain experience in the workplace whilst studying to gain an NVQ in Business and Administration Level 3. The support and guidance I receive from my colleagues is limitless – they always make time to answer my questions and give me opportunities to develop my skills and experience.”
What do you do on a day-to-day basis?
“I work with clients to understand their requirements and walk them through the options. I provide guidance and advice based on my experience – the clients value this input as they know I’m working with them to achieve the best result, in a given timeframe and with a specified budget. As no two clients are the same, my day-to-day activities are really varied and diverse. I’ve already made huge progress within my position and I believe that this is only the beginning.”
What social activities do you get involved with at KPMG?
“KPMG is full of friendly faces and there’s a lot going on! There are lots of clubs and networks to get involved in – whatever you’re interested in, there’s bound to be something for you. You can get involved to the extent you like. In addition to firm-wide events, there are lots of opportunities to catch-up with colleagues on an informal basis – we have a common room with pool tables, games, lots of restaurants and cafes in the office.”
What advice would you give to someone thinking of joining one of the
“My advice would be to have confidence in your strengths and abilities and do your research. I read news articles and studied the KPMG website to fully understand what the firm is and does. I thought I knew all about KPMG but I was amazed at the scale of the firm; it does so much in different industries.
I would recommend an apprenticeship with KPMG without hesitation, I have gained so much from it already and there is potential to learn so much more.”
What opportunities are available to you in the long term at KPMG?
“I have learnt more than I ever imagined on the programme. I have developed new skills, made new friends and now have a solid foundation on which to build a career with KPMG. I’m looking forward to further developing those skills and working more closely with clients as their trusted advisor. I’ll have the opportunity to mentor and manage new joiners and put my communication, team-working and time management skills to good use!”
