Our People: Hanna
Immigration Consultant – Tax Legal in London
Hanna worked as an Education Officer for a non-governmental organisation in Sweden after university. She then moved to London to take a Master’s Degree in International Migration and Public Policy. In 2015, she joined a global news and financial product company as an in-house Immigration Specialist, before coming to KPMG in 2016.
“One of the most attractive features of KPMG for me was the size and reach of the organisation. I was looking for an organisation where I would have the opportunity to work with clients and colleagues across the world and at the same time gain transferrable business development skills which would broaden my options for the future.
“I was also keen to join a team that was predominantly made up of legal professionals and solicitors. Having worked as an in-house Immigration Specialist, I thought I could offer a different perspective to the team – the view from the clients' side.
“The best thing about working here is the culture. I previously had a role with a real sense of autonomy and responsibility and I was worried that KPMG would be quite rigid and limiting in comparison. But actually, the opposite is true. You’re always encouraged to express your ideas and take large projects forward – regardless of your level. It’s a very open environment.
“You’re always encouraged to express your ideas and have your say here – no matter what level you are.”
“That openness actually comes across to clients too: they know they can have open and honest conversations with KPMG, and that helps to build up trust and strengthen our relationships.
“Another thing I love about KPMG is the diversity. Particularly in my team, we all come from different backgrounds and bring our own, unique experience to the mix. It makes for a truly vibrant, dynamic environment. Our cosmopolitan make up helps us to relate to our diverse clients in the UK and globally.
“I’ve been at KPMG for about two months now, and it’s been a brilliant experience. Being a part of a new global immigration team, I have already had loads of opportunities to learn, develop and even take responsibility for setting up our new strategy for global clients.
“What has helped me develop the most, is the amount of responsibility I’ve assumed in such a short space of time. It’s something I’m really proud of. I’ve already had the chance to run my own projects, try out innovative new ideas and even take them forward across the firm and to our clients. It just shows that at KPMG, if you’re focused and put in the effort, they’ll give you the chance to prove yourself and progress.”
