Our People: Laudina
Assistant Manager - Innovations, Reliefs and Incentives in Birmingham
Laudina studied Chemistry at university before working for the chemicals industry. She then returned to university to undertake a Masters and an EngD in Chemical Engineering. She came to KPMG in 2016 as an Assistant Manager in our Innovations, Reliefs and Incentives team.
“I’d been looking at all the major professional services firms, and felt that KPMG was right for me. I was told that the people here were also warm and welcoming, and that was very important for me.
“I’ve come a long way since I first joined, in no small part because I’ve been able to have open conversations about my development with my Performance Manager. We’ve talked about where I need to be in the next couple of years, and what I need to do to become a Manager.
“I’ve also had the chance to lead my own projects and get experience of the client relationship side of our work. KPMG is an excellent place for early opportunities and responsibility. I’ve been able to get formal training here too. I work in a team that’s a mix of technical and tax people, and because my background is technical, I was given tax training so I could understand the other side of our work.
“And it’s not just the projects I’ve been involved in. Right across KPMG there are all sorts of schemes to help talented young people. For example, the firm gives talks at schools and colleges up and down the country. They’re committed to encouraging young people from all backgrounds to step forward.
“There’s also a very supportive and creative environment here, where everyone is urged to step forward and have their say. People are encouraged to be creative and express their ideas – no matter what their level. For instance, we have regular team meetings across the firm, where people can have their say. There are also focus groups specifically created to give junior staff the chance to speak to Partners and put their ideas forward.”
