Our People: Hannah
Graduate Trainee - Consulting Forensics in London
Hannah did her undergraduate degree in Maths at Durham University before joining the Forensic graduate scheme in the Risk Consulting department of our London Office.
“This job actually didn’t cross my mind until I read about the scheme online. It looked really varied, something that wouldn’t be the same thing day in, day out.
Then KPMG came to Durham and I met some of their grads. You couldn’t fail to notice how they genuinely enjoyed their jobs. They talked about the friendly environment, how they were still learning. When I compared that to other people I knew, it seemed really different, in a positive way.
I’ve joined last autumn and the work I’m doing is still challenging and interesting. I’m working on something called the Client ID team — before we work with clients we have to check their backgrounds to make sure everything ties up.
We’re looking for evidence of money laundering, financial crime, or things that just don’t make sense. It’s like being a financial detective.
We have progress check goals and really great Performance Managers who give you rapid feedback to help you know where you’re doing really well, and where you can up your game. When you’re doing well, they let you know. When you go the extra mile, you’re noticed.
“They’re really good at coaxing you out of your comfort zone. Without them, I think most people would just play it safe and not gain that experience.”
I had a big moment when I realised I’d made the right choice and that KPMG was the place for me. I participated in several KPMG focus groups that fell in a single week; they were for Women in Forensic Banking, Breathe – the LGBT network – and graduate recruitment too. I understood that this is a business going out of its way to make this a place where people want to work.”
