School and College Leaver Programmes: KPMG Discovery

The KPMG Discovery Programme has been designed specifically with students like you in mind. As well as giving you the chance to gain invaluable work experience in the professional services industry, it’ll give you an excellent insight into the work we do here – and the way we do it.

Running in summer 2017 at a number of KPMG offices around the country, the programme is aimed at bright, ambitious, enthusiastic students in Year 12 or S5 who are interested in a career in business at a firm such as KPMG.

Whichever office you join, the KPMG Discovery Programme will allow you to develop the skills you need to build a successful career. During the programme you will undertake a series of business challenges, skills workshops and research tasks designed to develop some of the key skills needed to thrive at KPMG.  You will also have the opportunity to meet and hear presentations from KPMG staff across the business and on our 5-day and 3-day programmes, work shadow to see the type of work our staff undertake on a day-to-day basis.

A culture of excellence and recognition

At KPMG, your future is every bit as important to us as it is to you. That’s why our aim is to give you experiences that stay with you for a lifetime.

We’re proud of our culture here. It’s one that recognises hard work, encourages new ways of thinking and embraces diversity and inclusion. We have an innovative spirit that inspires what we do and how we do it. Over the course of the programme, we hope you’ll share in that spirit and become a key part of our business.

Who is it for?

Ambitious and enthusiastic students in Year 12 or S5 who have a strong desire to learn and are interested in a career at a firm such as KPMG. We’re looking for people who want to take the early steps towards their future career, as well as discovering more about themselves.

“I really enjoyed my time at KPMG and I have learnt so many new skills. I’ve become more certain that I would like to become an accountant and that KPMG is definitely somewhere I would love to work as everyone I met was incredibly motivated and happy. The programme was extremely helpful. I will certainly be applying for one of the School Leaver programmes in September.”

This initiative makes it more straightforward for young people from low income families to access the accountancy profession. With that in mind, we encourage applications from young people who meet the following Access Accountancy criteria:

  • Attend a state school or college,
  • Are or have been eligible for free school meals (or attend a school that is above the regional average in terms of number of students eligible for free school meals) or
  • Would be of the first generation in your immediate family to attend university.

Our commitment to Access Accountancy means that we will ask questions regarding those criteria on your application form. However, we do welcome applications from all backgrounds and would encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet the Access Accountancy Criteria.
