School and College Leaver Programmes: Audit School Leaver Programme

If you’d like to go to university and start your career without building up a hefty student debt, here’s your chance. Not only will you get to join our industry-leading Audit team, you’ll work towards an accounting degree from a top UK university – and best of all, we’ll pay all your tuition and accommodation fees.

We’ll even pay you a competitive starting salary and support you every step of the way as you work to become a fully qualified Chartered Accountant.

But what is ‘Audit’ exactly?

Every so often, businesses need reassurance about their performance and reliability. So an audit is a bit like when a car goes in for an MOT. But at KPMG, we go way beyond the simple nuts and bolts of financial statements. We like to get right to the heart of an organisation, getting to grips with the inner workings of the business so we can spot any problems before they happen.

For you, the best part is that audit is something that affects all businesses. Which means you’ll have the opportunity to experience life across a variety of industries. You’ll get to meet lots of interesting people and develop skills that are always in demand. Plus, you’ll have access to senior business people from all kinds of different sectors.

Who’s it for?

We’re looking for students who’ve completed their A-levels or Scottish Highers and are thinking of going on to university. You'll be someone who truly aspires to a career in business and recognises the role KPMG plays in the wider business world.

It's hard work, but while we expect a lot from you, you’ll gain plenty back in return. In fact, you’ll become a fully qualified Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS).

I’m interested. How do I apply?

Start by having a look around our site to make sure the programme is right for you. Once you’re ready to apply, you’ll follow a simple step-by-step process.

Stage 1: Online Application Form
The application form is your chance to tell us about your academic background and any work experience. It should take about 20 minutes to complete.

Stage 2: Situational Judgement Test
After you’ve submitted your application form, you’ll receive a link to a Situational Judgement Test (SJT) within one working day. The SJT presents you with hypothetical, challenging situations that you could encounter at work as a trainee with KPMG. In response to each situation, you have a choice of possible actions you could take to deal with it. The SJT takes around 30 minutes to complete, and you’ll need to finish it within 7 days. Please do not start your application if you do not have sufficient time to take the test within the specified time limit.

Stage 3: Online Numerical and Verbal Reasoning Tests
If you’re successful in your initial application and SJT, you’ll be asked to take online numerical and verbal reasoning tests, lasting 20 minutes each. Designed especially for KPMG, they’re not only used to see how good you’re at reading and maths. They look at your ability to analyse numerical and verbal data – the skills you’ll need on the job.

Stage 4: First Round Interview
If you’re successful in the reasoning tests, you’ll be invited to attend a first stage interview in the office you applied to. This will last around 90 minutes and will include an interview and a written exercise. The interview will be with a Manager in Audit and will focus on KPMG’s behavioural capabilities.

Stage 5: Director/Partner Interview
If you’re successful at your first round interview, you’ll be invited back to meet one of our Partners. This interview will be more in depth than the first round interview, but it’ll still be based around our behavioural capabilities. You’ll also be briefed on a presentation that we’d like you to deliver to the Partner. We’ll give you more information about this once you reach the final stage.
