We are a specialist function within KPMG’s Audit Practice whose purpose it is to review and challenge complex statistical models used within audited entities as part of the overall financial audit process.

The Assistant Manager role is key to the delivery of this function. Across a breadth of projects, the role-holder will be expected to build effective relationships with colleagues of all levels of seniority and experience. Routinely they will work closely with other functions and specialists, including Central Risk, Legal, and Ethics and Independence, as well as KPMG Global Services and audit engagement teams. They will be required to maintain and develop a sound professional understanding of the evolving regulatory and commercial environments in which KPMG provides audit services. They will promote a proactive attitude towards the mitigation of risk, helping to ensure that the Firm’s policies and practice remain ahead of these changes.   

The role requires attention to detail as well as excellent communication and presentation skills. It would suit an efficient organiser able to prioritise between competing demands and build rapport with a variety of stakeholders

In the role, you will be responsible for managing and delivering our  most complex audit engagements to a high standard of quality, from planning through to completion. 

You will have your own portfolio of large and/or complex audited entities, with responsibility for agreeing audit timetables, briefing the audit team (including specialists), monitoring budgets, and supervising the KPMG audit process. You will manage and nurture stakeholder relationships at audited entities throughout the engagement, working with senior level staff.

 

You are also likely to have a departmental role, facilitating the internal operations of running the business, for example, roles relating to finance, technology, quality, people etc. 

As an Audit Senior Manager, you will be responsible for leading teams and supervising the work of junior staff, providing coaching and development to assist them in the effective delivery of engagements. You will also have performance management responsibilities for a small number of employees.

An opportunity has arisen in our insurance tax team, specifically focused on the life insurance part of the market. The team provides tax advisory, tax compliance and tax audit services in the life insurance sector, with advisory work spanning a range of corporate, M&A and product tax issues. 

 

KPMG’s Insurance tax team, part of the wider FS tax team, is a group of around thirty tax professionals of all grades with a strong market reputation working with leading global and UK insurance groups. The team is spread across several sites including centres in London and Edinburgh. The team works as a national team and location does not dictate client allocation.

Our business covers the full spectrum of insurance clients, including major UK-based insurers, international insurance groups, life insurers, pension product and other specialist providers, and brokers.

The successful candidate will work directly for a range of partners and directors who are highly experienced and are recognised UK-wide as leaders in their areas of specialism with strong promotion opportunities.

We are looking for capable, enthusiastic professionals with experience of the life insurance market, and of corporate tax for life insurance groups.

In addition to delivery, the role will include building client relationships as part of wider client service teams and embedding tax into opportunities where relevant, as well as taking tax propositions to clients.

Job Description

You will work with a diverse portfolio of clients across UK listed and take on a variety of projects, including tax structuring, international expansion and operating model redesign.

The role will suit either a Senior Manager wanting to drive their tax career forward advising international businesses, or an ambitious Manager wanting to take the next step. Previous experience of working with multinationals is helpful, but strong technical skills, drive and curiosity are essential.

 

Key roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Working as a key member of the team to provide International and Complex UK Tax Advisory services to support our clients in achieving their commercial objectives.

 

  • Managing the successful delivery of technically excellent advice including: tax structuring, refinancing, legal structure optimisation, pre/post transaction reorganisations, tax authority enquiries and providing technical support to the wider corporate tax team.

 

  • Liaising with specialists in other departments and overseas offices to oversee their input into tax advisory projects.

 

  • Coaching and developing more junior members of the team.

 

  • Managing aspects of the team’s operations and performance, including resourcing.

 

  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients and understanding of their business in order to create opportunities to help with the provision of tax and other services.

 

  • Managing proposals for new work, including delivering tender documents, presenting at client pitches and identifying solutions for client issues.

 

  • Seeking out and pursuing opportunities with targets and actively participating with Dire
