KPMG London US tax team is a rapidly expanding team of four US tax partners supported by c.30 US tax professionals. The US tax team in London is well placed to provide US tax advice and compliance services to clients Europe and the Middle East with US investments and/or US investors. Working on KPMG’s US tax team in London will provide individuals with US tax experience and a unique opportunity to live and work in London. Responsibilities:

- Prepare US tax returns for a variety of corporate and partnership clients.
- Assist in advising clients on a full spectrum of corporate and partnership tax services, including planning, research, compliance and mergers and acquisitions activities in an international context. Assist with multiple client engagements.
- Research and write client tax advice relating to domestic and international tax matters.
- Assist in formulating and delivering tax planning and tax savings services

Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

The successful candidate must have the following:
- Master's in Taxation (MST) from an accredited college/university
- Strong planning, research, and communication skills, as well as general knowledge of corporate tax compliance.
- Prior US Tax experience of at least 1 year to support this.
- Previous experience (1 year plus) in preparing US tax returns for a variety of corporate and partnership clients.

The Team


The Major Projects Advisory practice is a global practice within KPMG, with practices in the UK, USA, Australia, South Africa, India and the Middle East. The UK practice is well-established with a team of circa 50 people who work occasionally on overseas assignments.

Our focus is on major infrastructure projects for public and private sector clients in particular in the following sectors:

- Transportation
- Natural resources
- Power and utilities
- Oil, gas and process engineering
- Defence

The Role


The UK MPA Team sit across three locations - London, Manchester and Birmingham. For this role you will be working from our London office in Canary Wharf but will need to frequently travel to client locations throughout the UK and occasionally overseas.

The role is for a Quantity Surveyor or an Engineer with a good level of experience and understanding of the commercial management of major construction / infrastructure projects. We are seeking talented individuals that have experience working for major UK contractors, consulting or client organisations.

You will be working with colleagues to provide advice to or conduct project reviews for clients who may be project owners or contractors. Reviews may be focused around identifying whether projects are likely to be delivered to schedule and budget or to establish causative reasons for poorer than expected project performance. Assignments will also involve the review of processes and controls and advising on specific aspects of commercial management of contracts.

The Person


The role requires significant post-qualification experience with the following attributes:

- A deep understanding of the issues that impact project performance
- The ability to quickly assess new situations and data to provide a basis for developing an understanding of the causative issues.
- Set out a clear approach to taking on a new project issue in the most efficient manner
- Analytical approach to problem solving
- Capable of articulating effective solutions to project issues base on own knowledge and experience.
- Clear, concise, fact-based report writing
- Understanding of standard industry contractual forms
- Achieved RICS professional qualification or similar engineering qualification.

The Role

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with the drive and aspiration to move outside of the traditional financial/accounting arena to develop a unique combined financial-commercial approach to the construction market.
The MPA team in the UK are based in Manchester and London. This role could be based in Manchester or London but will require frequent travel to client locations throughout the UK and occasionally overseas.

The role is for a Manager level Accountant with a good level of experience and understanding of the construction sector and in particular of the financial management of construction projects and construction companies.
Within the current team we have a lot of experience in the assessment of the commercial performance of portfolios of projects for construction clients. This role is designed to provide the financial accounting lens to our commercial findings to help clients understand the accounting impacts of our work and to provide construction related accounting advisory inputs to clients with major infrastructure projects. The successful candidate therefore needs a good understanding of how construction projects report, and of accounting for revenue and profits on contracts. The role will also work with CFOs to assist in understanding the causes of poor financial performance and to identify the commercial analysis required to improve operational performance, to drive margin improvement and cash management improvements.

• Previous experience (5 years plus) reviewing US corporate and/or partnership tax returns for a variety of corporate and partnership clients.
• Ability to handle multiple engagements and client service teams and demonstrated ability engaging with clients in an advisory capacity.
• Strong client management skills and has demonstrated the ability to gain the confidence of the client to deliver complex projects on a timely basis and address tax technical issues
• Demonstrates a strongability to interface with clients and communicate complex tax matters to client in a manner client can understand
• Significant experience (5 plus years) in tax advisory matters
• Significant experience (5 plus years) in the application of the U.S. withholding tax rules (in particular FATCA)
• Strong ability to multi-task and work effectively under pressure in a rapidly changing environment in order to meet deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, solid research skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment and/or independently
