Every day is different whether it be a new client, working with a new team or the type of engagement. It is a much more flexible way of working than I have ever been used to.

What attracted you to KPMG?

I wanted to join a big four firm in order to further my career and to ensure that I could be the best that I could be. What attracted me to KPMG, however, was the people. The interview was relatively informal and from stepping through the door, everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. This has continued throughout my first year working for KPMG.

I additionally wanted to work with much larger and more challenging clients. I have been rewarded with this and am very excited for the next 12 months to come with the portfolio I now have.

What difference has it made to you (personally/professionally) joining KPMG?

Since I joined, I have never stopped learning. The wide client base means that I have been able to develop my technical skills, my project management from working in larger teams and my leadership skills, amongst other things. I have grown in confidence and feel comfortable communicating and discussing complex issues with clients.

More senior colleagues have always encouraging to help me progress through providing opportunities for me to present my ideas at meetings and hold discussions with the partner and the client.

How do we differ to your previous employer(s) (think about culture, team, ways of working. Complexity of work, challenges when you first started)

Every day is different whether it be a new client, working with a new team or the type of engagement. It is a much more flexible way of working than I have ever been used to. Some weeks I might work long hours and others I might work 9-5pm from home. The one thing that is always true however, is that every engagement is a team effort and everyone works as hard as each other.

There is also a large focus on wellbeing and through this I have been able to set up a running club. Additionally I have found having a People Leader really helpful. This is someone to go to and discuss any work or personal issues with and they genuinely do care and want to help.

What was your previous impressions of KPMG and has your perception changed since you joined us?

I was concerned before I joined that I might just be a little fish in a big pond and go unnoticed but this really isn’t the case. There are so many socials, house events and work related activities to get involved in the department. These are attended from the most junior colleagues up to partner level and so everyone has the opportunity to get to know as many people as possible.

This is also facilitated by having large teams out on site and the managers and Partners regularly coming out and so there is always an opportunity to interact with all different grades.
