KPMG has one of the leading Indirect Tax & Customs practices in the UK.

We work as a national practice providing advice and support in all aspects of Indirect Tax (VAT, Customs Duty, Green taxes) to a broad range of business sectors including large multi-nationals, household name retailers and public sector organisations.

The Indirect Tax practice is a fast-growing and dynamic business, currently with 13 partners and approximately 200 professional staff in the UK.

The role in question is with the Trade & Customs team.

Trade & Customs

KPMG has a large team of Trade & Customs specialists located across the UK, working to support our national portfolio of clients with a variety of Trade & Customs issues. Within the team we have deep specialists in areas such as valuation, classification, origin and customs special procedures.  We work closely with our colleagues in Indirect Tax, other areas of Tax such as Transfer Pricing, and the wider Advisory business to deliver value to KPMG’s clients for whom we offer a wide range of services including customs advisory, compliance reviews and preparation of duty reclaims.

Our Corporate Tax Compliance business is made up of a dedicated and enthusiastic team of Corporate Tax Compliance specialists working with our cutting-edge technology platform and our advisory teams to provide a first-class service to our diverse client base which includes global and large domestic compliance clients with complex and interesting tax profiles. We are now looking for talented Assistant Managers. The successful candidate will have UK Corporate Tax Compliance experience, be able to build strong relationships and provide excellent client service. Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a portfolio of clients and take responsibility for ensuring the tax computations are prepared to a high standard, on a timely basis and finalised and submitted to HMRC within agreed deadlines.
  • Act as one of the main points of contact on your portfolio of clients on day-to-day tax matters, working with Managers and Senior Managers.
  • Oversee the work of junior colleagues, providing coaching and technical guidance as part of the overall review process.
  • Ensuring that clients are kept up to date on developments within Corporate Tax that may be relevant for their businesses.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues, working with Managers to prepare technical analysis and involve specialists as appropriate to prepare or review analysis.
  • Respond to client requests for ad hoc technical advice and working with KPMG specialist teams to deliver an excellent and co-ordinated service to the client.
  • Build and develop positive constructive relationships within your team and across your client base.
  • Opportunities to support clients with their group reporting needs and assist with tax audit work.
  • Coaching, career management and technical support for junior team members.
  • Follow KPMG best practice and policy.

 

Knowledge and Experience:

  • UK Corporation Tax experience including reviewing computations and returns and acting as a client liaison through the compliance process.
  • Experience/awareness of specific technical areas including complex capital versus revenue treatment; pension scheme and share scheme adjustments; group relief; basic transfer pricing; tax accounting for single entities and groups; controlled foreign companies and corporate interest restriction.
  • Ability to analyse problems, identify core issues and demonstrate curiosity around new ideas approaches and perspectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Take personal responsibility and accountability for own work.
  • Sustain a high level of drive, enthusiasm and a positive attitude that translates across the team.
  • Excellent teamwork and organisational skills, including monitoring timetables and budgets.

The Quality and Risk Management (QRM) team at KDN Central is seeking a high-performing Assistant Manager to support its quality and risk management operations and strategic direction. This role will focus on developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure the quality of client deliverables, compliance with legal and regulatory obligations, and meeting client expectations. 

The ideal candidate will have experience in quality and risk management and will play an important role in QRM’s activities across a range of KDN policy and process related initiatives.

 

How you will make your mark

 

• Support KDN’s quality review programs within each function (Audit, Tax & Legal, Advisory) as they are designed, implemented and operated
• Assist in driving KDN compliance with Global Quality Risk Management policies
• Assist in the development, monitoring and operation of SoQM/KQCE processes throughout KDN
• Working with the relevant KDN process and control owners, including at the owned delivery centers, to complete quality SoQM/KQCE-related documentation timely
• Manage monthly, quarterly and annual reporting and control timelines
• Assist with the coordination of the annual independent testing process over KDN KQCE documentation
• Support the annual KDN risk assessment process
• Identify potential process and control improvements, support remediation of control related findings, and work with the relevant owners/operators to design / implement such improvements
• Monitor and communicate relevant global communications and information to others within KDN with SoQM and KQCE responsibilities
