Academic requirements

  • Can I apply to one of the Apprenticeships Programmes if I’ve already graduated?

If you have a degree, we would advise you apply to one of our Graduate programmes in the first instance. We will accept applications for the KPMG360° programme if your degree does not match the professional qualifications that you would be working towards on the programme. For example, if you have a degree in accounting, you would not be eligible for the apprenticeship programme, you could however be eligible to apply for our Graduate programme.

In addition to this, if you don't meet the grade requirements for any of our Graduate Programmes, you may still be eligible to apply to the KPMG360˚programme. To view our Graduate Programme entry requirements, please click here.

  • What do you look for other than good grades in a potential employee?

As well as your academic qualifications, we look at your behavioural capabilities in nine key areas. By ‘Behavioural Capabilities’ we mean the skills and behaviours you’ll need to be successful at KPMG.

There’s no single type of person who succeeds here, but we do look for people with something special to offer. We’re just as interested in other aspects of your experience and other parts of your character. Overall, we’re looking for people with a strong awareness of business, the curiosity to find out more and the ability to think of new ways to solve problems. We’re also interested in those who take pride in their work, have integrity, strive to improve themselves and can build strong relationships that bring out the best in others.

When preparing for your interview, you should think about these areas carefully and consider how you’ve demonstrated these behaviours in your life. It could be through academic work, hobbies, part-time jobs or extra-curricular activities.

We value any experience you’ve gained so far and are interested in hearing about it. Try to think about specific examples of things you’ve done in the last two to three years which relate to our behavioural competencies. Spend some time remembering what you did, what role you played and what challenges you faced.

  • Can I apply if I'm studying or have an AAT Qualification?

If you’re interested in a graduate role then you can apply, but your academic results will need to meet our minimum requirements for GCSEs, A-levels and Degree Classification. If you’re interested in one of our apprenticeships programmes, again, you can apply but your academic results will need to meet the standard requirements for the specific programme.

  • I don't meet your minimum academic requirements. Will I be rejected automatically?

No. However, these requirements have been developed over time as a guide to see how well you should be able to cope with the demands of the role, professional exams and training and, as such, they are very important in the selection process. Nevertheless, if there are extenuating circumstances as to why you haven’t achieved these minimum requirements (such as illness, for example), you'll have the opportunity to include this information on your application form.

The application process and applying

  • What happens if my computer crashes half way through completing the application form?

This is not a problem, as long as you remember to save your answers as you go along. Even if it crashes in the middle of a test (if applicable) that you can take only once, the technology is sophisticated enough to know what's happened and should let you start again.

If you do experience any problems, please visit our Contact page.

Please note that there is little we can do if you only inform us of your problem after you have received your results.

  • Will my personal details remain secure?

KPMG takes online security very seriously. We use leading technology to help ensure your application is not accessible to anyone outside the application process.

  • What happens after I've submitted my application form?

Please visit our application process page for specific information on the programme you're interested in.

  • Is my application processed by a machine?

No. Due to the volume of applications we receive – and in order to provide you with a speedy response – parts of your application are processed by a computer. Without exception, the decision to invite you to the next stage (or not) will be made by a member of our Recruitment team.

  • I can't get access to a computer for long enough to complete the online application form – what can I do?

Please visit our Contact page and we’ll try to make suitable arrangements to help.

  • I can't find the information I need on the recruitment site. Where can I find out more?

Hopefully, you’ve found this site comprehensive and informative – we've certainly tried to include everything prospective candidates might wish to know. If, however, you can't find the information you need, you might like to visit our corporate site for more details. If you have a specific query, you can email us via the Contact section of this site and we'll try to respond as soon as possible.

  • I've got an interview – what can I do to prepare for it?

Take a look at our section on the Application Process and read through our Behavioural Capabilities.

  • I'm applying to several other organisations. Does this matter?

No. KPMG recognises that you may be interested in a variety of different training schemes. Applying to these will in no way affect your application for a place on KPMG’s training scheme. We do, however, ask that if you decide to accept an offer of a position, either with us or with another organisation, that you inform all other potential interested parties at this stage.

  • I've already left school. Can I still apply to KPMG360˚?

Yes. However, if you have graduated from university you will need to look for opportunities with a KPMG graduate programme. People who already have significant professional experience or professional qualifications should visit our dedicated website for experienced professionals.

  • Is there an opportunity to describe any extenuating circumstances that may affect my application?

If you would like us to consider something that has affected your academic results, please indicate it in the section provided on the application form. If you feel you have a valid reason for not being able to use the online application, we'll be happy to consider this as well.

At KPMG we are committed to encouraging diversity in the recruitment, retention and development of our people. Any data you provide will be held in strict confidence and will enable us to make any reasonable adjustments necessary and allow us to track how successful we are in recruiting talented people, irrespective of difference. Please visit our Contact page if you have any special requirements (religious, disability or other) which should be taken into account or which need accommodating during the recruitment process.

If you have already completed AAT Level 4, the KPMG360˚ programme may not be right for you. • Can I still apply for KPMG's Apprenticeships Programmes?

For all programmes, employees are required to have the legal right to work in the UK for the entire duration of the particular programme – which for this programme is five years.

As KPMG is unable to obtain a working visa for roles within this particular programme due to UK immigration law, it is the individual’s responsibility to ensure that they have and maintain the right to work in the UK for the entire duration of the programme, including any applications that may be required.  Applicants should be aware that their employment is liable to be terminated if they lose the right to work in the UK during the programme and they will also be required to repay course costs/fees that have been incurred by KPMG.

All applicants must meet our academic requirements, and if you’ve studied overseas you must have the equivalent of the UK requirements. Please visit the ‘Academic requirements’ section for some helpful details on this. It’s important that you state on your application form your qualifications as they were originally awarded to you – all applications are read by a member of our recruitment team.

Other general queries about applying

  • Do you only accept applications from 18 year olds?

Age is not important to us; all applicants are judged on their abilities.

  • Is there an age limit for applicants?

No, we encourage applications from all ages.

  • When is the deadline for online applications?

KPMG recruits on a ‘rolling’ basis. This means that we don’t have a deadline for applications. However, some business areas and offices receive a large number of applications so we strongly advise you to apply sooner rather than later. The only exception to this is for applicants requiring a work permit, who need to submit their application by the April before the start date.

  • Can I apply to more than one country?

If you apply to an Apprenticeship role in the UK your application will only be considered for that office location. Our applications are not linked to any other KPMG country, so for UK applications, you are able to apply to KPMG in the UK, and directly to another country too.  KPMG member firms in other countries may have differing processes, so please do check with each KPMG careers/recruitment webpages.
