Job description

About the team

The People in M&A team advises clients on the workforce and organisational aspects of transactions, from human resources due diligence through to deal execution. The team supports clients on organisation design, people strategy, labour relations, compliance, employee experience and human resources operations, working collaboratively across Deal Execution, Advisory and wider KPMG capabilities.

About the role

As an Associate Director, you will lead complex People in M&A engagements and help grow the practice. You will advise senior clients throughout the transaction lifecycle, build trusted relationships with executive stakeholders, oversee high-quality delivery and support the development of people, propositions and market opportunities.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Lead human resources due diligence and People in M&A programmes across acquisitions, divestitures, carve-outs, integrations and separations.

  • Advise clients on people strategy, organisation design, workforce transition, culture, employee experience and workforce synergy opportunities.

  • Act as the primary client contact, leading meetings, interviews and stakeholder engagement with senior leaders.

  • Deliver clear, evidence-based recommendations that address transaction risks and value opportunities.

  • Manage engagement scope, budgets, resourcing, quality controls, governance and risk management.

  • Collaborate across Deal Execution, Advisory and international teams to deliver integrated client solutions.

  • Support business development through propositions, proposals, client pursuits and market-facing activities.

  • Coach, mentor and develop team members while fostering an inclusive and high-performing culture.

Experience and skills needed

  • Significant experience delivering human resources, organisation design or strategy programmes within a mergers and acquisitions environment.

  • Experience of human resources due diligence, integrations, separations and transitional service arrangements across the deal lifecycle.

  • Deep expertise in at least one area such as organisation design, talent, culture and employee experience, workforce synergies, human resources operations or labour relations.

  • Proven programme and engagement management experience leading mixed client and consulting teams in complex environments.

  • Strong senior stakeholder management, facilitation, influencing and relationship-building skills with C-suite leaders.

  • Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce high-quality client reports and recommendations.

Qualifications you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

A relevant professional qualification and fluency in a European language are welcomed but are not essential.
