About the role:

As a Tax Director in the US Private Client Tax Practice, you’ll manage a complex client portfolio and provide tailored advice on clients’ US and UK tax affairs. You’ll play a significant role in building and growing the practice through client management, business development and relationships with professional intermediaries, while combining technical leadership with line and performance management responsibilities. You’ll also support the onboarding of new clients who need bespoke private client tax advice and build trusted relationships with third parties, including trustees and wealth managers.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Contribute to business development and the continued growth of the US tax practice, including relationships with professional intermediaries.

  • Lead tax advisory projects and the tax compliance process, maintaining quality standards, managing risk and delivering excellent client service.

  • Manage a complex client portfolio and provide clear, tailored advice on US and UK tax matters.

  • Lead client engagement and onboarding, build long-term relationships and ensure internal and external deadlines are met.

  • Manage, coach and develop team members across technical and professional skills.

  • Delegate work effectively, review outputs and provide timely, constructive feedback.

  • Collaborate with specialists across KPMG on estate and gift tax, inheritance tax and corporate tax matters.

  • Lead scoping, quotations and final billing decisions, while supporting prompt payment and effective financial management.

Skills, knowledge and experience you’ll need:

  • Experience managing complex client portfolios and delivering high-quality tax advice.

  • Strong knowledge of US tax compliance, including reviewing and signing US tax returns.

  • Working knowledge of controlled foreign companies (CFCs), passive foreign investment companies (PFICs), estate and gift tax, inheritance tax and cross-border interactions.

  • Experience leading, coaching and developing colleagues while managing team priorities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex matters clearly.

  • Commercial judgement and relationship-building skills, with the ability to identify client needs and develop tailored solutions.

Qualifications required:

  • Enrolled Agent (EA) and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification is essential.

  • Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) and/or Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualification is desirable.
