You will lead high-profile projects for private equity funds, sovereign wealth investors, developers and public sector organisations while working in a multidisciplinary environment alongside Tax, Deal Advisory and Consulting specialists. The role offers substantial client exposure, responsibility for delivering commercially focused legal solutions and the opportunity to contribute to the continued growth of a well-established planning practice. It is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planning lawyer to help shape a growing team, develop junior colleagues and strengthen KPMG Law’s market presence.
About the role
KPMG Law is part of KPMG’s Tax & Legal capability, bringing together legal, tax and advisory expertise to help clients address complex business challenges. The UK Real Estate team has grown significantly since its establishment in 2023 and advises on investment, development, asset management, planning and compulsory purchase matters across a broad range of sectors.
As a Planning Senior Solicitor, you will provide high-quality legal advice on planning, highways, public rights of way and compulsory purchase matters. You will work closely with clients and colleagues across KPMG, lead complex projects from instruction through to completion and play a visible role in developing the team’s planning practice and market profile.
Roles and responsibilities
Lead and deliver planning, highways, public rights of way and compulsory purchase matters for a broad client base.
Manage projects from instruction to completion, ensuring high standards of technical quality and client service.
Provide practical, commercially focused legal advice that supports client objectives and manages risk effectively.
Build and maintain strong client relationships, creating opportunities for repeat work and wider KPMG services.
Collaborate with colleagues across Tax, Deal Advisory and Consulting to deliver integrated client solutions.
Contribute to business development activities, market engagement initiatives and practice growth plans.
Strengthen KPMG Law’s reputation through recognised expertise in planning and infrastructure-related matters.
Coach and develop junior lawyers, supporting capability growth and succession planning within the team.
Experience and skills needed
Strong experience advising on planning, highways and compulsory purchase matters within a recognised legal practice.
Excellent technical knowledge of relevant legislation, regulation and market developments.
Ability to lead complex matters with minimal supervision while managing competing priorities.
Commercial judgement and the ability to deliver legal advice within a broader business context.
Proven relationship-building skills with experience developing client and stakeholder relationships.
Experience supporting, mentoring and developing junior colleagues within a collaborative team environment.
Qualifications required
Qualified Solicitor in England and Wales, or an equivalent relevant qualification.
Significant post-qualification experience in planning, highways and compulsory purchase law.
