Role Purpose

What we are looking for…

This role will be situated within the Audit Technology Delivery Team (ATDT) within KPMG’s EWT Function and is a direct report to the Head of Audit Technology Delivery.

We are seeking an experienced, skilled, and proactive Platform Engineering Lead to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in establishing and leading a new engineering vertical within ATDT, shaping a modern engineering tower to support developers and cloud engineers. You will oversee the design, development, and maintenance of cloud platform solutions, enabling seamless integration of modern engineering techniques across the team.

In addition, you will lead a team of engineers, including specialists in both traditional infrastructure and Azure DevOps, ensuring the stability, availability, and security of the Azure platforms used by product developers. This team will also provide 4th-line SME support for KPMG’s critical Audit applications and other key products hosted in Azure.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Team Leadership
    • Build and lead a high-performing team of engineers specializing in both traditional infrastructure and Azure DevOps.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
    • Transition engineering resources into the new vertical and define the structure and skills required, including capabilities in DevOps, Data & Analytics and AI.
  2. Cloud Platform Build and Maintenance
    • Lead the design, build, and maintenance of resilient and secure cloud-based solutions.
    • Define and implement standardised patterns, practices, and tools to support the development lifecycle.
    • Ensure platforms are optimized for performance, reliability, and scalability.
  3. Cloud Optimization
    • Continuously review and optimize cloud resources for cost efficiency and performance improvements.
    • Ensure solutions adhere to best practices for security, compliance, and operational efficiency.
  4. SME Technical Cloud Support
    • Provide 4th-line technical support for key applications, including mission-critical Audit platforms hosted on Azure.
    • Troubleshoot complex issues, ensuring minimal downtime and operational continuity.
    • Act as the technical escalation point for complex infrastructure and cloud-related incidents.
  5. Environment Stability and Security
    • Ensure the stability, availability, consistency, and security of non-production environments across ATDT.
    • Collaborate with other teams to ensure environments are aligned with production standards and support quality assurance processes.
  6. Strategic Contribution
    • Establish and shape the new engineering vertical, integrating seamlessly with existing towers.
    • Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for the vertical, aligning with organizational goals.
    • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing insights and recommendations on platform strategy and execution.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Proven experience in leading engineering teams, with expertise in both traditional infrastructure and Azure DevOps.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud platforms, especially Azure, and modern engineering practices such as Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD, and containerization.
  • Experience managing and optimizing non-production environments to ensure stability and security.
  • Expertise in cost optimization and performance tuning for cloud environments.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills, with experience in 4th-line support for critical applications.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with experience in creating and growing teams.

Desirable:

  • Experience in integrating Data & Analytics or AI capabilities into engineering practices.
  • Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect, Azure DevOps Engineer, or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with audit-related applications or regulated industries.

Key Competencies

  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Adaptability and innovation in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities.

Key Deliverables for the First 12 Months

  1. Establish the new engineering vertical within the team and define its structure.
  2. Transition engineering resources into the new structure effectively.
  3. Develop a roadmap for skill development, focusing on DevOps, Data & Analytics, and AI.
  4. Optimize the Azure platform to support current and future product development.
  5. Build and maintain a resilient support model for the Firm’s critical Audit application and other key platforms
