Job description
The KPMG real estate and infrastructure tax team is a fast-growing part of the KPMG tax practice, that provides high-quality and impactful tax advisory and compliance services. Key Responsibilities:
The role involves a mixture of both compliance and advisory responsibilities, with specific duties including:
- Lead and drive the tax compliance and advisory for a portfolio of real estate and infrastructure clients, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of corporation tax compliance and advisory work.
- Final review corporation tax computations and returns for complex property structures, including partnerships, property unit trusts, and REITs.
- Final review Quarterly Instalment Payments (‘QIPs) calculations, forecasts and related correspondence with clients.
- Lead tax accounting and provisions working, including reviewing tax disclosures and deferred tax calculations for audit purposes under IFRS and UK GAAP.
- Support clients during HMRC enquiries and correspondence, leading the responses, drafting technical analyses and liaising with HMRC to resolve queries efficiently.
- Review Corporate Interest Restriction (‘CIR’) calculations, working with client to gather data, assess group ratios and prepare associated filings.
- Lead anti-hybrid rule reviews, identifying potential mismatches and ensuring compliance with UK hybrid mismatch legislation.
- Independently run client meetings and calls.
- Create, maintain and grow a portfolio of clients with whom you will build long-term trusted client relationships.
- Collaborate with other service lines (e.g. audit, deals, accounting) to deliver integrated client solutions.
- Mentor and develop junior team members, reviewing work, providing feedback, and supporting their technical and professional development.
- Maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted adviser and identifying opportunities for value-added services.
- Stay up to date with legislative and market developments impacting the real estate and infrastructure sectors.
- Initiate and oversee business development initiatives for the team.
Relevant skills and experience:
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate some or all of the following attributes:
- Professionally qualified (ACA / ACCA / CTA or equivalent).
- Career drive to be part of a fast-growing, high-performing Alternatives tax team. Positive approach to personal development.
- Track record of leading and overseeing the delivery of high-quality corporate tax advisory and compliance services to clients. Real estate and infrastructure experience is preferred but not essential.
- Ability to take day to day leadership of delivery team, including supporting them with managing competing deadlines and communicating effectively with colleagues and clients, including when under pressure.
- Strong level of UK corporation tax knowledge and the ability to communicate complex rules and ideas in a simple way, both verbally and in writing.
- A good understanding of CIR, Anti-hybrids, REITs, QIPS.
- Strong project management, delegation and coaching skills.
- Familiarity of and enthusiasm to work with emerging technologies and ability to combine this knowledge with evolving tax regulations.
- Proficiency in using tax compliance software (e.g. Alphatax, CCH) and Microsoft Office applications.
