The International Office of the General Counsel is a team based in three countries. The team provides legal advice on key strategic issues for, and supports the execution of key business decisions made by, KPMG International. It also supports KPMG International and the KPMG global network in dealing with legal, regulatory and reputational issues and risks.

Responsibilities


- Provide legal advice and support from the International Office of the General Counsel on the development, protection, enforcement, acquisition, transfer, licensing, and distribution of technology, software and data, particularly risks, protections and opportunities related to products and innovation.
- Advise on, draft and negotiate various strategic intellectual property and technology agreements, with a focus on complex licenses and services agreements (including software license agreements, data rights agreements, cloud services agreements (i.e., SaaS, PaaS, IaaS), software/technology development agreements, and software/technology acquisitions).
- Understand the technical aspects of, and business plan for, KPMG-developed technology solutions, and counsel on cross-border intellectual property and data rights, software development life cycles, open source software, freedom to operate, intellectual property enforcement, copyright versus patent versus trade secret protection, and market trends related to the foregoing
- Support firm-wide strategic initiatives with respect to technology, software, cloud subscriptions, intellectual property, data lakes, data protection and cybersecurity, open source software and mobile applications.
- Work closely and collaboratively with KPMG’s Global business teams (including audit, tax and advisory) and strategic growth initiatives to develop, protect, acquire and license KPMG technology solutions.
- Also work collaboratively with Global professionals in risk management, data privacy, IT and data security, technology and software development, IT infrastructure, procurement, project management, and branding and marketing, as well as other intellectual property, technology and commercial lawyers within KPMG member firms in major jurisdictions.
Qualifications

- Minimum 5 years PQE of experience in the areas of intellectual property and technology law, with a strong focus on complex strategic transactions, deal structuring, licensing, and counseling on best practices for developing, licensing, protecting and enforcing IP, technology and data rights.
- Must be qualified and licensed to practice law and have a degree from an accredited college or university
Experience and Skills required

- Excellent technical legal skills
- Strong negotiation, drafting and communication skills, and substantial experience counseling on and negotiating a variety of technology agreements, transaction structures and software development models.
- Understands how to balance the needs, demands and requirements of a global business with legal risks and protections
- Must possess an excellent working knowledge of cloud-based information technology businesses, services and products and be able to translate complex legal, technical, business and regulatory issues into easily understandable advice
- Must be self-motived and able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume legal department with many different stakeholders worldwide
- Understands how to foster a collaborative and inclusive environment, has the cultural sensitivity required to engage with people at all levels and with diverse backgrounds, and is able to drive the implementation of solutions that typically have a cross-border dimension
- Experience advising on US and EU data privacy issues, artificial intelligence platforms, data and analytics platforms, and mobile applications is preferred but not required
- Some domestic and international travel will be required

The Team

Our Data and Analytics team is a specific area of focus and growth for KPMG. Structurally, we sit in the Technology practice of our Management Consulting division. We provide strategic, organisational and technical advisory work for our clients that allows them to exploit their information and maximise value from data assets. Given the significant demand in the marketplace we are looking to hire multiple individuals with expertise in at least one of the following areas: Data & Information Management, Information Exploitation or Advanced Analytics.

The Role

The successful candidate will:

•Lead large, complex data & analytics programmes and projects from strategy to execution.
•Work with senior client stakeholders (CIO, CDO and CFO) to cultivate strong relationships as a trusted partner, through articulating and realising the value of data
•Identify, scope and develop data, analytics and automation opportunities with clients
•Develop client solutions across the creation to consumption data lifecycle (data sourcing, management, quality, reporting & analytics)
•Produce thought leadership on Data Management, Master Data Management, Meta Data Management, Reporting or Analytics
•Build data frameworks, accelerators and points of view to support sales and solve key client issues
•Leverage their understanding of key technology vendors in the marketplace to deliver engagements
•Contribute to business development including leading the creation of Requests for Proposals responses
•Develop people through coaching, mentoring, formal performance management and creating an inclusive working environment
•Use their people management experience to lead combined project teams of client and KPMG data analytics professionals, and develop knowledge in the KPMG team

Skills and experience required

•Masters or bachelor’s degree in a technical or economic field with working knowledge of topics such as data modelling, information management, machine learning, and cloud computing
•Significant experience of data analytics and information management with a professional services firm, an internal strategy/analytics group, or similar environment
•Demonstrable experience of complex data programmes covering the full creation to consumption data lifecycle of data sourcing, management, quality, reporting & analytics (four stages of Create, Curate, Consume and Commercialise)
•A recognised SME in Data & Information Management, Information Exploitation or Advanced Analytics
•Functional knowledge and point of view around key tools within the Data Management or Analytics market
•Developing and/or delivering an Analytics/Data Management roadmap
•Designing an appropriate target state for client data functions based on their vision and current state issues
•Analysis of data, identifying insights and providing hypotheses
•Understanding the delivery of data projects through a standard or alternative project lifecycle
•Understanding of market trends, new technologies and how they impact companies and society (e.g. Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Deep learning…)

Forensic Technology (“FTech”) is looking for a Manager to join the current team. The group is part of KPMG Risk Consulting, with typical engagements involving the capture of client data from computers and networks, and analysis/process management in support of large scale regulation, litigation or investigation and IP/Commercially Sensitive Data Remediation.

On a day-to-day basis the FTech Manager will work under the direction of the Senior management team, and will oversee the team in the delivery of engagements. The nature of the work will include some out of hours work and overseas travel, depending on the nature of the assignments.

Given the increase in the number of FTech engagements and the corresponding rapid growth of the FTech team, a strong Manager is required to ensure effective delivery of current and future projects.

The Person


Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing a number of FTech engagements and/or client accounts, enhancing our overall offering via business development and infrastructure improvement, devising and implementing long term strategy for the department, managing business processes and performance management across the team.

To succeed in this role you will need to demonstrate the following experience and skills:

- At least five years of experience in the eDisclosure, legal, IT or related industry.

- Knowledge of the EDRM and all various processes associated therewith

- Technical background with experience of eDisclosure tools such as Relativity, Nuix, Equivio, enCase, BrainSpace etc.

- Ability to develop and present materials to clients in support of business development activities. - Excellent project management and IT project delivery skills.

- Ability to focus on detail, work methodically and to be able to communicate effectively with others. - Excellent team working skills and the ability to work efficiently and accurately under pressure.

- Ability to take ownership of team tasks and pursue these through to completion with initiative and enthusiasm.

- The willingness and enthusiasm to learn about the Forensic Technology industry as it continues to advance and change.
