The team

KPMG's Governance, Risk and Compliance Services (GRCS) are looking for an experienced Manager to join us in the Infrastructure, Government & Healthcare part of the firm. Our engagements span Education, Healthcare, Housing, Local and Central Government and KPMG is a market leader in most of these sectors. IGH is an area of the firm with tremendous growth potential and GRCS is an integral part of our Advisory practice. We provide services relating to internal audit, internal control, corporate governance, risk management, funding, grants and related assurance projects. Clients are based in the public sector and our services deliver added value to clients using modern control assessment, risk management and audit techniques focusing on strategic, management and operational issues as well as financial management and reporting controls. We also work closely with other advisory teams including our colleagues in Technology Risk and Cyber Risk to ensure our clients receive the best possible advice and assurance.

  • Providing internal audit services on both outsourced and co-sourced contractual basis
  • Creating annual internal audit plans for clients

Our Dispute Advisory team helps clients to establish the facts in relation to an incident, loss or misconduct and then to remediate and recover value. We are experienced in managing diverse issues including fraud and misconduct, regulatory compliance, risk frameworks and modelling and much more. 

As a Director and Engagement Leader, we expect you to lead and successfully deliver challenging and complex engagements.  You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, manage stakeholders and deliver quality solutions to our clients. You will be expected to originate opportunities through both internal and external relationships and take the lead on business development activities, including marketing, knowledge sharing and practice development.

Role and responsibilities:

You will help the team with the following service offerings:
(i) Early legal and technical input into potential disputes with HMRC.
(ii) Reviewing a variety of ideas and situations and appraising for litigation risk.
(iii) Litigation in the Tax Tribunals, High Court, Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and ECJ

This will include:

(i) First drafts of pleadings such as notices of appeal and witness statements.
(ii) First draft correspondence, advice and reports.
(iii) Legal research.
(iv) Case management of ‘group litigation’ cases.
(v) Preparing for hearing including preparing bundles of documents and authorities.
(vi) Instructions to Counsel, attending Conferences and preparing settled notes.

Education and qualifications:

The applicant will be a tax litigation lawyer with experience in litigation and/or tax dealing with commercial clients.In addition, a successful applicant will have the ability to get up to speed quickly on tax technical matters and be keen to continue developing his/her legal skills and engage in new areas of work.
