KPMG’s Corporates International and Complex UK Tax (“ICT”) team, focussing on the large corporates market, is a well-established group of around 40 dedicated international tax and treasury specialists who help UK and international headed groups address all of their international tax advisory needs.

We assist our clients by managing and advising on international and corporate tax projects as part of multidisciplinary and multijurisdictional teams and provide specialist UK corporation tax advice on a variety of complex issues including; global tax strategy and structure, cross border financing, expanding into new markets (including the UK), the appropriate location for assets and activity, reorganisations, cross border structuring, rationalisation and divestment.
We are looking for a Tax Senior Manager to join our ICT team in London. The individual would manage a variety of UK corporation tax, international tax and treasury related projects and advise a portfolio of clients. There are ambitious growth plans for the team as we have recently invested in a number of senior hires that are well established in the marketplace.
The Responsibilities
This role involves working on and managing a range of projects and clients, focussing on the large corporates market, across a range of sectors. The work includes:
• Advising UK and international groups on a range of cross border tax issues, group structuring, financing, inbound and outbound investment, intellectual property structuring etc.
• Advising clients on a variety of complex UK corporation tax issues (including, but not limited to, the UK CFC rules, the taxation of loan relationships, derivatives, intangible assets, foreign exchange, Diverted Profits Tax etc.)
• Project managing cross border teams and UK client service teams on an ongoing basis on advisory projects. This involves liaising with specialists, overseas member firms and external advisers, to deliver successful projects and expertise to those clients.
• Be market facing with allocated clients and target organisations.
• Building strong working relationships with key client contacts.
• Managing teams, coaching and developing junior members of staff.
• Being actively involved in business development and proposal activity.

The Team

Our public sector learning business covers our work with our clients from across Infrastructure, Government and Healthcare (IGH), and has plans to grow significantly in response to client demand. The IGH Learning Sales Lead is responsible for overseeing these strategic learning pursuits in line with the Connected Learning business plan. KPMG is a leading ‘big four’ professional services firm. With over 16,000 employees in the UK alone, KPMG faces all the challenges that a high calibre employment solicitor would expect to meet in private practice and now has a vacancy for an employment lawyer with experience in employment litigation, internal investigations, transaction support and general advisory work to join its employment team. Basic knowledge of business immigration law is also required.


The Role

The role is to provide in-house employment law related advisory service on demand and proactively on initiative, to clients of the ELAT team, principally being human resources professionals within KPMG, who in turn are dealing with employment law issues on a day to day basis. The proposal is that the solicitor will be responsible for all of the employment law requirements and undertake investigations in high-risk or sensitive conduct cases as and when required.

Advice will be on both contentious and non-contentious employee related matters which occur in KPMG’s offices throughout the UK. This will include providing advice to the in house employee investigations team. Employment litigation experience is required including experience of appearing at Employment Tribunal (e.g. Preliminary Hearings).

In carrying out the role, the solicitor will be required to work as the junior employment lawyer in the existing team currently comprising three solicitors (including Head of ELAT).

The successful candidate will also be required to liaise with and manage external law firms and barristers when appropriate. However, most of the employment legal advice is currently carried out in house.

The successful candidate will also be asked to co-ordinate and/or present training/update seminars on relevant topics for internal clients.

The successful candidate will be degree educated (minimum 2:1) or equivalent and will have gained solid employment knowledge (contentious, transaction support and advisory) and trained and worked in a reputable employment legal team.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

The successful candidate will be comfortable managing their own files and time and interested in a role which varies in scope from day to day.

Experience of both contentious and non-contentious matters is a requirement and experience in advocacy is highly desirable.


The role involves advising on all aspects of employment law and experience in the following is sought:

- Employment litigation including drafting claim responses, conducting case management discussions, preliminary hearings and judicial mediation in person, managing disclosure;
- Significant practical knowledge and experience of the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations (TUPE) essential, ideally with some public sector TUPE experience;
