The Regulatory Affairs team, reporting into the Chief Risk Officer, is here to provide support and guidance on the regulation of KPMG’s own activities. We help to enhance the firm’s relationships with regulators and support colleagues navigate the complex regulatory landscape that KPMG operates in. The Regulatory Affairs team provides support and guidance on how to communicate with regulators in line with the firm’s established policies and procedures.

This is an exciting opportunity for a risk and regulatory professional to be an integral member of a high capability Regulatory Affairs team, which advises a demanding multinational professional services business, with a turnover of £2bn and employing over 16,000 people in the UK on a range of regulatory matters. KPMG is a heavily regulated business across all its capability areas in audit, tax (including pensions and legal services), consulting and deal advisory.

Regulators and oversight bodies include the Financial Reporting Council, the Financial Conduct Authority and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales. Regulatory liaison is an increasingly important issue for KPMG, its clients and its people – this will only continue to increasing regulatory scrutiny. The focus of this role is to work across the firm to ensure KPMG remains compliant with its regulatory obligations.

Responsibilities


- Oversight and delivery of team responsibilities.
- Support the Head of Regulatory Affairs to influence change at senior levels within the firm.
- Contribute to the development of the firm’s strategy for maintaining open, constructive and transparent relationships with regulators.
- Have a thorough understanding of Regulatory Affairs at the UK level; supported by some understanding at EMA and Global level.
- Develop a thorough understanding of the Regulatory Affairs function and team. This team will act as the central point of contact for the firm’s key regulator (the FRC), excluding quality issues (which are led directly out of Audit) and Enforcement issues (which are led directly out of the Office of General Counsel (OGC)). It will also provide coordination and liaison support for other regulators, via agreed Regulatory Contact Partners (RCPs).
- Direct liaison with FRC (outside of quality and Enforcement matters).
- Build strong relationships with the RCPs and support them in liaison with other regulators.
- Work with RCPs to plan and deliver annual regulatory engagement planning meetings.
- Coordinate responses to ad hoc requests from senior management.
- Work closely to build strong relationships with the Regulatory Oversight Committee (ROC) members, and other senior colleagues across the business, and specifically:

o plan and manage the Risk Oversight Committee (ROC) agenda and oversee action tracking with the Chief Risk Officer, Head of Regulatory Affairs and KPMG LLP’s Corporate Secretary;
o prepare for interactions with ROC members and Exco including preparation of papers where necessary and providing briefings; and
o coordinate with ROC members to address overdue regulatory commitments.


- Project manage certain special projects sponsored by the Head of Regulatory Affairs and Chief Risk Officer and ensure timely delivery.
- Ensure the Head of Regulatory Affairs is fully prepared for all internal and external meetings and events.
- Review first drafts of key business documents including budgets, strategy planning, and service line contribution and effectiveness analysis.
- Manage/handle the day to day demands (e.g. emails, communications, meeting preparation, queries, follow up etc.) of the Regulatory Affairs team.
- Conduct research, collect and analyse data to prepare reports/documents for the Head of Regulatory Affairs (e.g. Regulatory event horizon scanning and initial impact analysis of changes on the KPMG business model).
- Prepare briefings for Regulator meetings including managing inputs from Regulatory Affairs staff and liaising with RCPs/ other stakeholders to obtain relevant and accurate information.
- Travel may be required from time to time as required and in agreement with the Head of Regulatory Affairs.

The Role

We are currently looking to recruit Managers to be based out of our Corporate Tax Advisory team in Reading. Our Reading office is moving into a new building (Forbury Place) in the centre of Reading in December 2019. The successful individuals will work as crucial members of the client service team to provide corporate tax advisory services. The role will involve travel to client sites and to other regional offices across the South region and therefore, willingness to travel is essential.

The successful tax candidates will be self-starting with a confident outward facing skillset willing to invest time and effort in the marketplace.

The role involves a mix of tax advisory services, compliance management and business development. This will include:

• Managing client relationships and becoming the focal tax point of contact
• Understanding the client's business and identifying areas for the provision of tax and other services
• Managing the tax compliance process (delivered by our Tax Centre of Excellence)
• Driving the tax advice on a wide range of projects
• Managing teams and coaching and developing staff
• Ensuring all risk procedures are adhered to

The Person

The successful candidate will have the following skills:

- Qualified CTA or ACA/CA or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of UK corporate tax and an awareness of other tax and accounting areas. Large Corporate tax and/or international tax experience would be an advantage but is not a requirement

Roles and Responsibilities:



Working as a member of the client service team to provide corporate tax advisory services including:



Providing tax advisory services to a variety of clients and overseeing the successful delivery of commercially viable and technically excellent advice involving tax due diligence, structuring, international and other advisory work
Liaising with specialists in other KPMG departments and overseas KPMG offices to oversee their input into tax advisory projects
Running client service teams, including working closely with other areas of the firm, such as audit and transaction services to ensure a seamless delivery of services to our clients
Developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients and understanding the client's business in order to identify areas for the provision of tax and other services
Ensuring that clients are kept up to date on developments within the corporate tax world that may affect their businesses
Managing proposals for new work, including delivering tender documents, presenting at client pitches and identifying new solutions / products for client issues

Qualifications and Skills:



Strong educational background (preferably 2:1 or higher University degree)
