KPMG's Indirect Tax practice is a dynamic and fast growing area within our tax business. A constantly changing and increasingly significant field, the Indirect Tax team helps clients manage the complexity of their Indirect taxes – whether the impact of VAT flows on cashflow, the impact of Brexit on Customs Duties and VAT or the impact that the liability of indirect taxes or the classification or value for Customs duty has on the margins that businesses can achieve on their products, Indirect taxes have a material impact on our clients bottom line and we make a meaningful difference to them by helping them.. The practice has a diverse mix of tax professionals, accountants, lawyers and trade and customs specialists with backgrounds from industry, practice and HM Revenue and Customs.

Key Deliverables:




You will be required to work within the Indirect Tax National Markets team to accelerate the growth of our business. Specifically key aspects will be to:

• Build relationships with senior contacts at clients and targets. You might have a particular sector focus or expertise or may be more of an Indirect tax generalist. We have room for both.



Lead business development initiatives and pitch for work with both new and existing clients, potentially both domestically and internationally.



Build an internal network within the wider tax, legal and advisory practices of our firm
• Set the standard for insight and technical opinions delivered to the client - knowledgeable on both client business issues and KPMG solutions, and can match both effectively and deliver them in a compelling way.
• Be confident interacting at the most senior levels internally and externally, while at the same time able to interact well with peers and able to inspire and develop junior members of the team.

Qualifications and Skills:

KPMG’s Financial Services Indirect Tax practice currently services a broad range of clients, providing both VAT and Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) services. As VAT and IPT are real time, transactional taxes we work closely with our clients, building up a deep knowledge of their activities and how their businesses operate.
The team undertakes both compliance and advisory services. Over the last 12 months the team has been successful in winning a number of new, exciting projects. These projects include working with some of the largest investment banks, insurers, asset managers and fintechs In the market, we continue to see strong demand from clients looking for indirect tax support.

In order to deliver the projects already won and the additional projects we expect to win, we are looking to recruit motivated individuals who have existing Indirect Tax experience, are interested in the financial services sector, would like the opportunity to assume responsibility for client delivery and are keen to build their knowledge of businesses operationally.

Responsibilities

• Providing indirect tax and advisory compliance services to a range of clients.
• Supporting senior members of the team in the delivery of client projects.

KPMG has a large team of Trade & Customs specialists located across the UK, working to support our national portfolio of clients with a variety of Trade & Customs issues. Within the team we have specialists in areas such as valuation, classification, origin and customs special procedures. We work closely with our colleagues both in Indirect Tax, other areas of Tax such as Transfer Pricing, and the wider Advisory business in order to deliver value to KPMG’s clients. We offer a wide range of services including customs advisory, Brexit planning, compliance reviews, training support and preparation of duty reclaims.

Roles and Responsibilities

As a key member of our team you will be:
• providing high quality customs and international trade advice for clients in line with UK legislation, HMRC guidance, and other local tax jurisdiction rules (where appropriate with support from KPMG member firms);
• developing and maintaining strong client relationships for those clients you are responsible for;
• developing innovative solutions for our clients including identifying Customs Duty risks and opportunities;
