The Role


We are looking for someone to become a key member of the growing Accounting Advisory Services team based in Manchester

The team provides specialist accounting advice to clients across a range of areas. Projects focus on the application of technical accounting – in particular accounting policy conversions and GAAP analysis, preparation of financial statements or carve out accounts, merger and acquisition activity, implementation support for new standards, group restructurings, and training – often working as part of cross-functional teams including Transaction Services, Corporate Finance, Audit and Tax.

We are seeking additional qualified accountants to work at Manager level to continue to extend the depth and breadth of accounting based services, in the areas listed above and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

- Management of client accounting related engagements, leading small teams. In some instances, leading AAS input into larger, multi-disciplinary teams

- Providing accounting support to transaction and tax teams answering questions on technical issues and providing input for reports

- Drafting and review of client reports and deliverables relating to technical accounting issues

- Development and delivery of accounting training to clients and internal KPMG teams

- People management and performance development

- Building and maintaining strong relationships with both clients and KPMG individuals

- Contributing to practice and risk management, including thought leadership and business development activities

- Supporting with business development activities of the wider AAS North team


Skills, Qualifications and Experience

- Qualified accountant (Chartered Accountant or international equivalent)

- Strong technical accounting experience with IFRS and UK GAAP

- Group-reorganisation and Companies Law knowledge is preferred

- Strong experience with recent developments in accounting, in particular IFRSs 9, 15 and 16

- Proven ability to build strong client and colleague relationships

- Experience of developing and presenting accounting training courses

- Experience of managing teams and project management

- Analytical ability and attention to detail

- Problem solving attitude and proven ability to apply accounting concepts to unusual one-off situations

- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

- Ability to work both as part of a team and independently

- Ability to manage own workload

The Team




The team predominately provides specialist accounting and financial advice, assurance and support to public sector clients with a focus on those operating within the A&D sector.
Typical engagements delivered by the team include advising on accounting and budgetary reporting requirements, contract reviews, financial analysis, technical accounting advice under the FReM and quasi-assurance projects performing agreed upon procedures.
The team also provides accounting and finance advice to private companies within the A&D sector with a focus on support to the tendering for public sector contracts and the implications of submissions for public sector budgets.



The Role



The role is to work as a Manager within the growing Aerospace and Defence (A&D) Accounting Advisory Services team. The role will involve managing and delivering AAS engagements and supporting the business development activities to support the growth of the team. The key responsibilities are:

Management of teams in delivering large-scale accounting/finance related engagements delivering high quality output to demanding timescales.

·


Providing robust accounting advice and financial analysis to support the client’s accounting and finance functions.

·


Building and maintaining strong relationships with both clients and KPMG individuals.

·


Thought leadership and general practice development in support of the growth of the team.

·


Effective risk management on all engagements.

The role will can be based in London, or Bristol with an expectation of some UK travel as, whilst the team’s current portfolio of clients operates in the Bristol area, the expected growth will be across other parts of the UK.

Depending on the department’s needs and your own goals, there may also be an opportunity to work on public sector accounting advice projects in sectors outside of A&D.

The growing Accounting Advisory Services team is seeking an Assistant Manager to utilise financial accounting and auditing skills to deliver value adding solutions to clients in the Aerospace and Defence sectors.

• Knowledge of public sector accounting rules, procedures, and processes desirable, but not mandatory.
• Experience of the defence sector desirable, but not mandatory.
