The team:

The Data Analytics Team (or Strategic Profitability Insights, SPI team) works with KPMG Deal Advisory (Corporate Finance, Transaction Services and Value Creation) teams to deliver value-add insights on the fundamentals of a Target business which is in the process of being purchased or sold. Using transactional, public, and private datasets, our team provides insights on customers, products, and other qualitative categories including, but not restricted to; sustainability, turnover, pricing, profitability drivers, concentration risk, winners & losers and wallet share.

Our team uses a combination of Alteryx, Tableau, Power BI and proprietary software to produce the aforementioned analyses in an efficient and effective manner. The deal teams, private equity firms, and target companies we serve are routinely impressed with the speed at which we can create robust analysis. For example, we can understand, at a transactional level, what is driving businesses, often in 1-2 weeks, working with datasets in the tens of millions.

The role:

You will be joining a fast-growing team within Deal Advisory that is driving value to our clients using data-enabled solutions. So what’s that actually mean?

• You will join and undertake a 1-2 week training on the software and systems our team utilizes. After that, you will be staffed on live engagements on which you will often work directly with a D or C grade to help complete deliverables. Often times you will be asked to work with or lead our colleagues in KGS.
• Note: The engagement industry and length will vary by project as we serve all of Deal Advisory on any manner of projects: buy-side, VA, VDD, business development, etc. We do see engagements from nearly every industry so please speak up if you have a preference.

Role responsibilities:

• Complete 1-2 week training, primarily focused on Alteryx, our main data management and manipulation software

When staffed:

• Perform initial Target research on the business, industry, and relevant KPI’s
• Understand and evaluate the quality of information provided, often “getting into the weeds” to fully understand a business. This process is effectively ‘interrogating’ the data. This often includes data:
- Collection
- Cleansing
- Manipulation
- Testing
- Application
• Apply critical thinking to the data available, Target, and industry to develop insightful analyses to deliver value to deal teams and clients
• Work closely with this data and analytics team, deal teams, and offshore colleagues to produce accurate, complete, and efficient deliverables

Qualifications:

• Minimum one year of experience in strategy consulting , data analysis, financial analysis, mergers & acquisitions, transaction services, deal advisory, financial audit, or equivalent
• Highly prefer minimum two years of experience
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university
• Exceptional attention to detail
• Strong critical thinking skills
• Proven ability to produce accurate outputs efficiently
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Desire to work in fast-paced, team-oriented, loosely-structured environment
• Desire to learn new technologies and skills
• Experience using data management programs (preferred, not required)
