Job Summary


We are hiring an Associate Director (VP to Director IBD equivalent) in the Financial Services / FIG Deal Advisory team in London, focused primarily in the UK but with selected clients globally in conjunction with the KPMG network.

We are a client-facing debt capital markets (DCM) team, helping Financial Institutions, Insurance Companies and Private Equity clients optimize their debt structures and regulatory capital. Our expertise covers senior debt, structured lending and securitisation, leveraged finance, Additional Tier 1, Tier 2 and senior bail-inable securities. We provide independent advisory services, strategic/funding option reviews, and specialist private transaction execution services to our clients.

As these businesses grow and mature they need additional and strategic financing assistance, making this a dynamic space in which to be working and a place that you can make a tangible difference to our clients. We also advise debut issuers such as Challenger banks and work alongside our M&A, transaction services, strategy and tax teams on complex engagements. Many of our execution mandates present an opportunity to act end-to-end, engaging with buyside investors including asset managers and private equity companies.


Role/Responsibility:



Your work will include project management of execution mandates, where you will act end-to-end, engaging with buyside investors including asset managers and private equity companies, alongside advising origination clients.. To achieve this, you will lead the production of pitches, transaction plans and timetables, investor lists and company/deal presentation packs, guiding and managing junior staff to assist you.


The right candidate will have the opportunity to engage directly with clients, taking significant responsibility in managing transactions and deal origination. Many of our clients are non-bank lenders, disrupting the traditional bank lending market with innovative and rapidly growing businesses.


Skills and Experience Required:



- A University degree, 2:1 or equivalent. CFA, ACA or other technical qualifications
- Understanding of the debt and leverage finance markets, including structuring lending transactions and debt staples.
- Strong numerical and modelling skills and an understanding of financial statements.
- A track record in the FIG and/or Insurance sector; a solid understanding of asset finance, cash flow lending and private equity deal structures.
- Ability to undertake an in-depth financial analysis of a client's funding and capital structure, identifying risks and opportunities.
- Able to prepare and help present tailored financing strategies to our internal and external clients.
- Experience in execution of financing on either the buy or sell side, including pricing and documentation.

The Team


KPMG UK’s Infrastructure Advisory Group (IAG) is a team of roughly 150 professionals and is widely recognised as one of the world’s leading independent financial and commercial advisers in the infrastructure sector. IAG has locations in London, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds and Manchester, but is operated on a national basis.


IAG provides in-depth advice on the strategic, financial, regulatory and commercial issues driving investments in infrastructure across Transport, Power & Utilities, and Social Infrastructure in the UK and internationally. This ranges from providing strategic thinking and advice to companies and investors to enable private capital to fund infrastructure, to working with the public sector to develop the business cases to enable projects to happen, and advising through negotiations that bring the public and private sectors together. The Role

The manager role is a central part of our team, with day to day responsibility for our client engagements and business development activity. The daily task will include;


- Managing debt and portfolio management of fund level activities
- Advising on business strategy and public infrastructure transactions with a particular focus on Public Private Partnerships
- Developing project risk matrix’s recommending risk allocation strategies
- Drafting of Request for Qualification (RFQ) documents
- Project managing the delivery of client engagements
- Building strong client relationships

Skills, Qualifications & Experience required;

- Experience of infrastructure projects within the public arena (local government, health, education or defence sectors) either as a bidder, investor, public procurer or lender.
- Working knowledge of financing structures and related commercial considerations;
- Be familiar with public procurement processes;
- Financial modelling and financial analysis capability;
- Have strong report and business case writing, Excel and Power-point skills;

Specific experience of leading financial due diligence project for private equity clients is preferred.

Role and Responsibilities

Director appointments are made on the basis of demonstrated track record. As engagement leaders, Associate Directors are expected to play a key role in the development of all aspects of the practice:



- Engagement leadership: individuals will be required to structure and lead multiple large, complex workstreams in ambiguous and rapidly changing environments.
- Business development: individuals will be required to build, commercialise and sustain relationships with top management team members for the benefit of the Firm. Job Description

Director appointments are made on the basis of demonstrated track record as engagement leaders, Associate Directors are expected to play a key role in the development of all aspects of the practice:



Perform financial analysis on the financial statements and internal management information of entities. You will be required to interpret financial performance of target entities, using your understanding of key accounting concepts, analysing historical performance trends, identifying key drivers of performance as well as identifying potential issues which could either lead to a price adjustment for our client or an integration issue post-acquisition.

Produce analytics on the trading performance and position of entities in order to provide clients with insight on key business drivers. You will for example be expected to prepare and work with a project data book.
Provide advice as a trusted adviser, using their skill, experience and understanding of transactions to the advantage of their client. This advice will be provided throughout a transaction and take the form of both oral and written advice. You will advise clients about the transaction process, SPA completion mechanics as well as providing general commentary of the findings of our work.
Demonstrate the ability to give clear directions, as well as positive and constructive feedback. You will coach less experienced staff and actively assist in the development of others. You will be expected to coach team members who are have either not yet fully attained accounting qualification or have less transaction experience than you.
Responsible for the delivery of client facing projects by being part of the transaction fieldwork team, being a day to day point of contact for senior client contacts for matters relating to our work.
Your role involves working in a team environment. You may be part of a larger team on complex assignments and you may be asked to lead work certain work streams on less complex engagements.
Build and sustain relationships with client management team members for the benefit of the Firm as well as acting as an ambassador and role model for the Firm.
Monitor and deliver high quality service to clients (both internal and external). You will need to be able to manage their own time, plan and organise work tasks, monitor progress and meet deadlines. Individuals will be proficient at managing multiple priorities.
Identify and manage risks, including front end client and transaction acceptance procedures and ensure the Firm's reporting frameworks are implemented throughout a transaction process.
