Job description
The Team
KPMG’s Infrastructure Team in the UK consists of c400 professionals and is widely recognised as one of the world’s leading independent financial and business advisers in infrastructure.
We provide in-depth advice on the strategic, financial, regulatory and commercial issues driving investments in infrastructure across a range of industries in the UK and internationally. Our work includes market and policy design, economic analysis, deal structuring and execution, as well as strategic and transaction advice. We are widely recognised by many industry stakeholders as one of the most innovative advisors influencing the future of the sector.
Our business is continuously expanding, and we are looking for high quality candidates to support expansion of our economic capabilities, with a particular focus on competition economics.
The Role
You would be joining the leading provider of regulatory and corporate finance consultancy services in the regulated utilities sector, working in the Finance practice.
As a Director you would provide senior leadership to the team, working closely with other Directors and Partners in IAG P&U as part of a ‘one team’ culture. You would have particular responsibility for building our competition finance practice, leading projects related to competition economics, profitability and regulatory reporting.
While you will be expected to contribute towards our well-established utilities regulatory consulting practice, there will also be opportunities to grow the practice in other sectors. The projects you will advise on will be high profile and varied.
In recent years we have advised on subsidy control, profitability, business rates, CMA re-determinations, cost of capital, financeability, risk analysis, major transactions and much more.
Roles & Responsibilities
• Play a pivotal role in developing our competition finance propositions, including profitability, competition economics, regulatory reporting and business rates.
• Lead projects and build enduring client relationships, becoming the go to person for utilities, infrastructure funds and financial institutions on relevant market opportunities.
• Nurturing and developing talent within the Finance team; performance management, coaching and mentoring of team members.
• Developing collaborative networks and successful partnerships across P&U and the wider firm; supporting colleagues in a wider ‘go to market’ strategy
• Leading client engagements on a day-to-day basis; producing, reviewing and overseeing development of high-quality documentation and presentations.
• Ensuring KPMG's quality and risk management procedures are completed to the appropriate standard.
• Developing sector specific market intelligence.
• Any other duties commensurate with the senior nature of the role.
The Person
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
• A professional and educational background in finance, regulation and economics. A MA/MSc/MPhil or above in Economics, or a relevant accounting qualification, would be desirable.
• Significant experience working in economics or regulatory finance in either a consulting firm, regulator, regulated firm or government department.
• Experience in developing new business is highly desirable.
• Comfortable leading a range of projects covering both economic and financial topics.
• Experience in managing economic or financial analysis for large projects, including management of teams, resources and junior colleagues.
• Experience of explaining complex issues clearly and applying economic or financial concepts and techniques to real world situations. Excellent report writing and Powerpoint skills.
• Comfortable and experienced in an external facing role and in presenting to clients.
• An entrepreneurial mindset with willingness to develop a new practice area
• A track record of working well with others from a wide variety of disciplines and backgrounds and collaborative approach to work with colleagues at all levels.
• Ability to support and develop more junior colleagues to get the best out of people.
• A good understanding of the UK utilities markets and the regulatory regimes that govern them is highly desirable.
