The team

KPMG’s Major Projects Advisory (MPA) team works with industry-leading organisations, helping to solve some of the biggest challenges in infrastructure. As a true market leader, we work with an impressive client base across the commercial and public sectors, delivering lasting results on projects and programmes which are household names.

Why join KPMG in Major Projects Advisory - Infrastructure Advisory Group?

KPMG’s Infrastructure Advisory Group (IAG) is widely recognised as one of the world’s leading independent strategic advisors in the infrastructure sector. We provide in-depth advice on the strategic, economic, financial and commercial issues driving infrastructure projects spanning the transport, power and utilities, social infrastructure and central government departments and private sector bodies sectors in the UK and internationally. There is no one-size fits all in MPA; we’re as diverse as the world around us and our people are our most important asset.

We focus on providing clarity to Boards, Executives and SRO’s at major public and private sector organisations, on the delivery of their projects and programmes. We work on some of the UK’s most strategically important programmes, and across all infrastructure sectors including transport, natural resources, energy, power and utilities, corporates, oil & gas, defence, health, housing & education.

Our team comprises specialists with deep construction industry experience, from working for project owners, contractors, engineering consultants and others in the UK and overseas.

On the back of continuing growth, we’re once again investing in our team to drive a step change in our capability. This means you’ll be joining one of the fastest growing areas of the firm at a time of real significance.

What will you be doing?

This role is for an innovative professional at manager level, who can work alongside our existing team to use their lived experience of planning, scheduling and project controls in construction to solve complex problems. There is no one-size fits all in MPA; we’re as diverse as the world around us. We hand pick our people because they’re our most important asset, and people pick us because we really mean that.

Managers in our team are client-facing and right at the forefront of delivery. This role requires strong post-qualification experience ideally gained from several infrastructure-related projects and programmes, but we’ll happily consider candidates with experience in other relevant fields.

As one of the senior consultants on the ground, you’ll be applying your experience every day, bringing to life tailored solutions for our clients whilst managing important relationships.

What will you need to do it?

For this opportunity, we’re looking for candidates with a strong post-qualification planning and project controls experience, primarily built around the planning, scheduling and project controls area of major projects and programmes. This could be as a contractor, consultant, or within a government role.

 Your track record should evidence:

  • Strong experience in leading and managing tasks that include monitoring, reporting, scheduling, cost control, risks management, change control, opportunities for improvement and implement project controls best practices
  • Some of your experience will be working within a consulting environment or directly advising clients, either for another consultancy or in an advisory role in industry or government
  • Experience in major projects and programmes, ideally in infrastructure of one of our priority sectors of transport, defence, power and utilities or nuclear
  • At least a working level of familiarity with delivery of major projects and programmes within the UK public sector
  • Strong experience of managing teams and applying project and programme controls, with a passion for the discipline
  • Some experience in the implementation of earned value management in accordance with relevant national standards
  • Developing tools and reporting for Project Controls
  • Risk identification and analysis
  • Project and programme performance monitoring and assurance
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • An ability to build and maintain great relationships and a desire to network across our firm
  • Communication and presentation skills
  • A desire to learn and develop new skills within planning and project controls
  • Proficiency in using Excel, MS Project and Oracle P6

Skills we’d love to see/Amazing Extras:

  • Delay and scenario analysis
  • Dispute advisory or expert witness experience
  • Supporting the delivery of advisory services such as organisational design and governance optimisation
  • Performance and efficiency improvement
  • Enhancing project and programme controls
  • Troubled project/programme reviews
  • A relevant professional certification – e.g. APM PMQ/PPQ; MoP; MSP; PRINCE2
