Summary of Role Purpose:

In the Finance Transformation team, we improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the finance function and generate real insights to help deliver value to the business. Our mission statement is to help our clients create and evolve a digitally enabled, human centric, and integrated finance function.

 

Our Financial Transformation practice is a priority area for significant and strategic growth. We work with leading public sector clients, focusing on understanding the core issues and opportunities to deliver value-adding change across their finance functions. The key drivers of change for our clients are: technology implementations, an ambition to be more efficient and effective, and a desire to progress along the maturity curve.

 

We are a team of problem solvers with extensive consulting and industry experience, working together with technology focussed professionals to deliver KPMG Powered Enterprise though a standardised delivery model, which drives professional delivery to clients.

 

Description of the role:

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated Manager to join our market leading Infrastructure, Government & Healthcare Finance Transformation team. You will play an important part in delivering our growth strategy and will manage project teams to deliver quality client engagements.

 

Applicants should have prior experience in the public or private sector, as well as in-depth knowledge of finance processes and technology. They should also be able to demonstrate the ability to carry out the following activities:

 

Engagement delivery:

  • Mobilising and managing small to medium sized transformation programmes including planning, managing and executing the delivery of engagements
  • Overseeing the writing of client reports and the review and quality assurance of work products

 

Risk management:

  • Taking responsibility for identifying and managing risks, engagement assurance, and managing project budgets

 

Business development:

  • Supporting the origination of opportunities for the firm through development of client relationships, and expanding existing engagements to address client challenges beyond the initial scope into further phases of work
  • Building and leveraging both internal and external relationships to support partners and directors to create business development and sales opportunities for the firm including pulling through other parts of the firm where appropriate

 

People development:

  • Supervising, coaching and reviewing the work performed by peers and colleagues
  • Taking on performance management responsibilities for more junior grades, contributing to annual talent reviews and supporting career progression

 

Practice development:

  • Contribute to the development of KPMG specific methodology and intellectual property to further our offerings in the market

Role dimensions:

As a Manager within the IGH Finance Transformation team, successful applicants will be responsible for:

Leadership & Management:

  • Management of small to medium sized engagement teams including both internal KPMG and external client team members
  • Organising work packages, overseeing data gathering and analysis, summarising insights and facilitating workshops to deliver on KPMG’s scope of work for a programme
  • Contributing to formal training, knowledge sharing, and networking activities for the team
  • Supervising, coaching and reviewing the work performed by peers and colleagues
  • Taking on performance management responsibilities for more junior grades, contributing to annual talent reviews and supporting career progression
  • Acting as a mentor to colleagues within the team and in the wider firm, taking responsibility for cultural improvement and living the KPMG values

Stakeholder Interaction & challenges:

  • Building and leveraging both internal and external relationships to support senior colleagues to develop sales opportunities for the firm
  • Maintaining a relationship with key client stakeholders, and collaborating with them to co-deliver a programme
  • Supporting senior colleagues with the preparation of the Firm’s response to client issued request for proposal (RFPs), including managing RFP responses and drafting proposals
  • Supporting senior colleagues in developing market leading materials and a voice-in-the-market through external blogs and points of view and representing KPMG at external events

Impact, Risk, Accountability & Governance:

  • Supporting Directors and Partners in ensuring that the Firm’s risk management framework is appropriately implemented
  • Supporting senior colleagues with internal operational responsibilities for the finance transformation team including revenue planning, resourcing, recruitment, wider team development and community building

The Person:

Successful candidates should have:

  • 6 or more years experience in the finance function of leading public sector or corporate companies, or client facing audit or consulting experience at a professional services firm
  • A proven ability to manage finance improvement projects in a leading finance function
  • A strong knowledge of core finance processes (e.g. record to report, procure to pay, order to cash, projects accounting) interdependencies with other processes
  • Experience with one of the major ERP technologies (Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, Oracle, WorkDay)
  • A strong grasp of finance function operating models, including: systems, data, processes, controls and governance
  • Have a proven ability to shape deliverables to meet desired client outcomes
  • Be able to articulate the challenges currently facing finance functions including in relation to the future of the finance function and nascent technology
  • Relevant public or private sector experience and knowledge in one or more of the following sub-sectors: Central Government, Local Government, Healthcare, Higher Education, Transport, Defence

 

Core skills and experience:

  • Have people management experience, including line management and performance management
  • Excellent communicator with the personal skills to build strong and lasting internal and client relationships; and the ability to deliver clear, concise, focused messages to senior finance team members or clients
  • Experience in implementing finance change programmes
  • Relevant finance qualification – ACA, CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA or equivalent
  • Knowledge of how Finance processes are enabled within a finance systems landscape (with a focus of one of the major ERP technologies: Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, Oracle, WorkDay)

 

Additional skills and experience (Desirable):

  • Prior client facing consulting or audit experience
  • Experience of enterprise software deployments
  • Management of a team, including allocating tasks, reviewing outputs, and performance management
