Job description

The Team

Our Asset Management Advisory (AMA) team brings together individuals with deep sector expertise and experience implementing asset management and infrastructure solutions to solve challenges across a range of sectors. We work with major public and private sector entities, principally those with major capital and infrastructure commitments in Transport (highways and rail), Defence, Power & Utilities, Telecoms and Energy Transition. This is a fast-growing area offering exciting opportunities building upon a global capability in Asset ManagemenWe are seeking an industry-leading Asset Management professional to become part of our team in KPMG UK supporting all AMA activity across the business including Operating Model Transformation, Strategy and Planning, Resilience, Estates Management, assurance and internal audit, with a specific focus on supporting our Oil and Gas clients navigate the energy transition.

Services provided by the AMA Team include:

  • Asset organisation and operating model transformation
  • Analytics and asset management improvement programmes
  • Asset investment strategy development and planning
  • Infrastructure resilience and adaptation including value-based frameworks
  • Assurance and internal audit of infrastructure activities, data and reports

The Role

As an Associate Director in our AMA team, you will be responsible, amongst other things for:

  • Delivering large, complex client engagements in an international context (significant travel likely required), operating at Board level and the level below
  • Manage and lead multi-disciplinary teams on client engagements, and across the AMA team and wider firm.
  • Focusing the deployment of asset management capability on client engagement and within KPMG
  • Deploying and developing asset management tools methodologies and frameworks (including but not limited to items such as project frameworks, project controls, stage-gating processes) across engagements
  • Engaging with global teams, including the Global Asset Management community to leverage resources and capabilities, developing robust approaches to the supporting service lines
  • Managing the day-to-day relationship with key client contacts, ensuring our service is responsive to their needs
  • Overseeing engagement financials: budgeting, invoicing, time tracking, risk and quality management in line with firm standards
  • Proactively keeping up to date with Asset Management thinking on a global level.
  • Supporting the development of the KPMG AMA brand with thought leadership and speaking engagements

Business development:

  • Identifying opportunities with existing client engagements to add further value and meet a client need, resulting in extensions to assignments or providing further expertise to an existing team
  • Building relationships and identifying opportunities where KPMG can help clients to convert opportunities into new assignments
  • Assisting on client proposals and other business development initiatives including leading the development of AMA market propositions
  • Coaching and mentoring other staff to develop their business development skills
  • Being a role model for junior staff and the firm's values

The Person

We are looking for a person who can work at pace and bring experience and practical solutions across the broad services we provide and sectors we operate in.

You will need to be able to work across different client types and have proven experience in delivering complex engagements, with a high level of client relationship management and a track record of delivering high-quality outputs that lead to securing further work.

The level of technical expertise will vary but will likely come from a background in asset management, infrastructure projects and/or business management from within asset-intensive organisations. 

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience focused on realising the strategic value of asset management at an enterprise level, not just engineering/operational level application
  • Experience engaging with Board-level representatives on strategic asset management topics
  • Understanding infrastructure organisation operating models and ability to assess the end-to-end process for asset management and infrastructure delivery (including operations and maintenance) for asset-intensive organisations
  • Experience with asset life-cycle decision-making and the ability to manage and direct the creation of asset management plans, capital programmes or maintenance regimes
  • Assessing and managing risks at both a service/network level and an asset level
  • Strong analytical skills and/or strong written, communication and presentation skills
  • Good understanding of asset management information and knowledge management
  • Experience in one or more key sectors of Oil & Gas, Energy Transition, Natural Resources or Utilities
  • Willingness to travel internationally, as required
  • Track record of managing senior client relationships
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships at all levels
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Commercial awareness
  • Relevant advisory / consulting / assurance experience

  • It would be advantageous if the individual has practical experience of providing advisory services and if the individual had worked across a number of sectors.
