Job description
Audit Lead Cloud Engineer(107481)
KPMG is part of a global network of firms that offers Audit, Tax & Pensions, Consulting, Deal Advisory, and Technology services. Through the talent of over 16,000 colleagues, we bring our creativity and insight to our clients’ most critical challenges.
With offices across the UK, we work with everyone from small start-ups and individuals to major multinationals, in virtually every industry imaginable. Our work is often complex, yet our vision is simple: to be the clear choice for our clients, for our people, and for the communities we work in.
Role Purpose
This role will be situated within the Audit Technology Delivery Team (ATDT) within KPMG’s Enterprise-Wide Technology (EWT) Function.
There’s never been a more exciting time to join our team. You’ll work closely with business partners and architectural teams, contributing to global discussions on how we design, deploy, and evolve resilient cloud infrastructure. Collaborating on infrastructure as code, DevOps workflows, and automated testing, you’ll help shape modern engineering practices. By sharing your expertise in scalable patterns, cloud-native architectures, and best practices for CI/CD, observability, and security, you’ll play a key role in shaping how we deliver high-value, mission-critical Audit platforms.
We are seeking an experienced, skilled, and proactive Lead Cloud Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will lead a small group of talented engineers in designing, building, and supporting the infrastructure that underpins our Audit platform.
Key Responsibilities
Build and run cloud infrastructure and services in Microsoft Azure.
Guide and encourage the adoption of modern technical practices and direction.
Lead sprint planning and help prioritise team workloads for effective delivery.
Mentor and support team members as they grow their cloud skills and capabilities.
Collaborate effectively across teams, while also being confident working independently.
Stay engaged with emerging technologies and bring innovative ideas to the team and wider community.
The Person
Well-organised and experienced in Agile methodologies, with the ability to plan and prioritise work effectively while remaining flexible and responsive to shifting business needs and fast-paced delivery environments.
A natural problem solver with the focus, drive, and determination to overcome challenges - committed to finding practical, effective solutions even in complex or unfamiliar situations.
Capable of balancing strategic thinking with hands-on delivery to meet day-to-day operational needs.
Strong communicator and mentor, with a passion for developing the skills of the wider team - supporting junior engineers, sharing knowledge, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.
Proven ability to interpret business needs and assess their impact on current systems and future technical direction.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have:
5+ years of Microsoft Azure experience in a Team Lead position.
Strong experience with CI/CD using Azure DevOps and GitHub, alongside scripting and automation skills in PowerShell, Azure CLI, Bicep and ARM templates (with a preference for automation over portal use).
Deep understanding of key Microsoft Azure components, such as identity, security and networking.
Good all-round knowledge of popular Microsoft Azure IaaS and PaaS offerings.
Experience building and configuring data products such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse and Databricks.
Proficient in infrastructure as code using Terraform or similar tools, with a focus on repeatable, automated, and secure cloud deployments.
Other desirable skills and experiences include:
Experience applying the Microsoft Azure Well-Architected Framework to design, assess, and improve cloud solutions across key pillars such as reliability, security, cost optimization, performance efficiency, and operational excellence.
Experience with testing reusable infrastructure components using tools like Pester or similar, along with static code analysis, to ensure code quality, consistency, and long-term maintainability.
Certifications, such as ITIL, Terraform, Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, or Azure DevOps Engineer.
Understanding of audit-related applications or familiarity with regulatory and compliance-driven industries.
