Job description
Software Innovation Engineer
Location: Glasgow, London, Manchester, or Leeds (Hybrid – 2 days in-office)
Architect the future of tax technology.
At KPMG, we’re building more than software — we’re building the future of tax.
Our Tax & Legal Technology team is a 160-strong community of engineers, architects, and innovators who are reimagining how technology powers one of the most complex and impactful industries in the world.
As our Software Innovation Engineer, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping our software ecosystem — from architecture to implementation — serving as an expert resource across our global Tax function to help scale AI-enabled, cloud-native solutions for deployment across KPMG and our client base.
If you thrive on solving big problems, mentoring others, and driving innovation, this is your moment.
Why this role is different
- Lead with impact: Bring your ideas and deep engineering expertise to shape architecture and guide the direction of systems used by over 2,500 Tax & Legal professionals — both within KPMG and across a range of Fortune 500 companies.
- Innovate at scale: Build reusable components, AI-enabled tools, and cloud-native platforms that power global solutions.
- Startup energy, enterprise reach: Work in a fast-moving, collaborative environment where your ideas have impact, backed by the scale of a global firm.
- A world class environment: We’ve been named one of the Sunday Times’ “Best Big Companies to Work For” — 10 years running.
- Grow your career: Access world-class training, certifications, and a clear path to leadership.
In this role you will…
- Lead, architect, and build everything from cloud-first applications and services to AI-enabled tools for mission-critical systems, highly distributed microservices, and event-driven architectures.
- Integrate emerging technologies such as AI driven development/automation and web components into our Tax technology offering.
- Use your Full Stack programming skills to take ownership and build common services, libraries, reusable components, REST APIs, Messaging solutions and wider applications.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to our software ecosystem blueprint.
- Collaborate with product owners and engineering leads to accelerate delivery in a Scaled SCRUM framework across multiple projects.
You will have…
- Deep Technical Expertise: An inquisitive and creative mindset, with the ability to collaborate effectively with leads, principal engineers, and product owners to design and build our cutting-edge product suite.
- Programming Skills: Strong programming skills in OO development using languages such as C# or Java, alongside modern front-end frameworks.
- Cloud Experience: Exposure to building cloud-first applications and services on a continuous delivery platform, with 100% infrastructure as code. A solid understanding of packaging and containerisation.
- Data Modelling: Ability to work with SQL or NoSQL databases.
- Continuous Delivery: Demonstrable experience in supporting your application with modern DevSecOps tools. Complying with secure coding and infrastructure standards.
- Proven ability to communicate, lead and mentor, across multiple teams.
You may have…
- Experience with generative AI, machine learning, or AI-driven development.
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and serverless platforms.
- Experience with React, Angular, Blazor, or ASP.NET MVC.
- Knowledge of Cosmos DB, MongoDB, Cassandra, or Entity Framework.
- Exposure to GitHub Copilot, data analytics, and pair/mob programming.
