Job description

Business Process Architect

 

Role Purpose

 

The role of the Business Process Architect is to significantly contribute towards efforts to improve, and create alignment between, the business and technology functions within KPMG to ensure that the Firm can execute its strategy and achieve its primary goals. The Business Process Architect must therefore have a good understanding of both business and technology strategy and concepts; requirements and designs; their mutual dependencies and impacts on one another; and an understanding of technology transformation and project management disciplines to create practical and feasible plans that deliver on the Firm’s primary goals. The Business Architecture team works closely with the Enterprise Architecture team to develop an integrated view of the enterprise, defining and using coherent frameworks, and repeatable methods and techniques. The build out of an integrated view of the KPMG UK Enterprise is key to accelerating and de-risking internal change and transformations.

 

In addition to general Business Process Architect duties there are two core expertise required,

 

  1. Lead Process architecture management and assurance to support the build assurance and maturing of an Enterprise Business Process Model / Repository in order to have an integrated view of the Enterprise as well as the design and implementation of process improvement projects. You must therefore possess in depth understanding of business process management, process analysis and modelling using proven methodologies like lean and six sigma as well as experience in using process mining to support process discovery and analysis.
  2. Lead the operating model design advisory and assurance service for Enterprise-wide Technology. You must therefore have a detailed understanding of technology operating models including people, process, technology components, for example, frameworks and archetypes of business capability models, organisational structures, roles and responsibilities, governance, high-level processes, skills, mindsets and behaviours, etc.

 

Key Responsibilities

Core knowledge

  • Possess a high level of knowledge in core areas, incl. design thinking, business capability modelling, process models, value stream mapping, customer & user profiling, journey maps etc.
  • Apply expert knowledge in business process management, process analysis and modelling using proven methodologies like lean and six sigma as well as experience in using process mining to support process discovery and analysis.
  • Apply expert knowledge in the design, development and assurance of operating models
  • Apply knowledge of current, emerging and future technology market trends, translating these into impacts on the business and its operating model(s)

Core tasks

  • Building and maturing an Enterprise Business Process Model / Repository.
  • Work closely with the business and tech functions to create alignment between business and IT
  • Help the business to understand the potential impacts of current, emerging and future technology market trends
  • Support the development of technology strategies, responding to and informing the business strategy
  • Ensure that Business Architecture is a key input in the development of other enterprise architecture views (e.g. Application and Data)
  • Translate strategy into transformation portfolios, individual initiatives and business cases, incl. operating model impacts
  • Advise on options, risks, costs vs. benefits, and impact on other business processes and roadmap priorities
  • Apply core Business Architect methods, incl. design thinking, business capability and scenario modelling, process models, etc. to deliver tangible value to the business
  • Apply lean and/or six sigma methods to support the operational excellence agenda of EWT and KBS
  • Apply process discovery and analysis and business activity monitoring using process mining
  • Assure processes created on key change and transformation programmes and promote as reference architectures to the Enterprise Process Repository
  • Develop good understanding of KPMG's business and technology strategies and translate these into implications for the target state operating model
  • Rapidly assimilate and apply KPMG's operating model frameworks and methods to assure operating model designs across our internal technology function
  • Track Target operating model (TOM) dependencies across the internal technology function
  • Act as a key member and voice on the Operating Model Design Authority to assure TOM designs across our internal technology function
  • May require management of people management
  • Up skill existing Business Architects in the team on process modelling and analysis
  • Act as deputy to the Head of Business Architecture

 

Essential Experience and Skills required 

 

  • Demonstrable experience of building Enterprise Process Model Repositories (e.g. using Aris, Adonis, Signavio) across large and complex working environments
  • Significant experience in Business Process Management and process modelling and analysis
  • Significant experience in the development of operating models.
  • Proven track record and experience of other Business Architecture areas, incl. business and technology strategies, process models, business and technology capability models and taxonomies
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following domains Technology, HR, Learning, Sales & Marketing, Risk, Legal and Finance.
  • Good understanding of design thinking, value stream mapping, customer profiles and journeys, KPIs, risk and control frameworks, and KRIs
  • Good knowledge of at least one technology domain, incl. Collaboration & Experience; Automation; Data Science & AI; Data; Integration; Security; and Cloud Engineering
  • A high level of general, technical knowledge incl. current, emerging and future technology market trends and their impact on business
  • Experience in managing small project teams and people management
  • Strong track record of experience in Business Architecture or related roles (e.g. Business Analyst, Process Architect), with strong experience a Business Architect
  • Qualified in Six Sigma, ITIL and TOGAF (The Open Group Architecture Framework)
  • Able to explain technical concepts to a non-technical audience in a way that is relevant, easy to consume and compelling
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity at the beginning of projects, with ability to provide clarity of direction despite this

 

Desirable

  • Experience of working with offshore teams
  • Practical understanding of GDPR and ISO 27001
  • Bachelor’s degree
